This document is for administrators who need to replace a power supply. Use this document to diagnose and replace a failed power supply in Google Search Appliance models G100, G500, and GB- 7007:
Note: The power supplies in the G100 and GB-7007 are replaceable if the Appliance ID starts with
T2, T3, or
T4. View the Appliance ID from the Admin console About page. The Appliance ID also appears on labels on the search appliance chassis.
Replacing a power supply consists of:
- Verifying the current state of the power supply.
- Contacting Google Customer Support to get authorization for a replacement power supply.
- Replacing the power supply in the search appliance, processing unit, or storage unit with the new power supply from Google.
- Verifying that the new power supply works correctly.
Working with Power Supplies
Diagnose and replace a power supply from the rear of a search appliance, processing unit, or storage unit while the device is in its rack and running. The power supplies are hot-swappable, which means that there is no service interruption during the process of changing a power supply. Exercise caution when working around powered devices to prevent injury to you or damage to the equipment.
You need at least 14 inches (36 centimeters) of free space behind a search appliance, processing unit, or storage unit to remove a power supply. If there is not enough space behind the device to remove the power supply, remove the attachment screws at the front of the rack so that the device can slide out far enough to remove the power supply. Remove the attachment screws using a #2 Phillips-head screwdriver.
Each search appliance comes with a key for removing the front bezel panel.
Dispose of the failed power supply in accordance with the recycle or disposal policy for your organization, locality, state, or country government.
Verifying the Power Supply Status
You can verify the current status of the power supplies from the rear of the search appliance, processing unit, and storage unit. At the rear of the device there is an indicator light on each power supply that shows its operating status.
On the G100 and G500 units, the indicator light is inside the pull handle, so the entire pull handle lights up.
If a power supply has an amber indicator light, the power supply has failed. If you see a power supply failure, contact Google Customer Support (see Contacting Customer Support).
The following table lists the conditions of the single indicator light on the power supply of the G100, G500 search appliances.

Verifying the Replacement Part ID
The part IDs for replacement power supplies from Google are as follows.

If you see that a power supply has failed, contact Google Customer Support to get authorization for a replacement power supply to be sent to you. You need to indicate whether the failed power supply is in the G100, G500 search appliance. Please provide information from the System Status page in the Admin console.
You can contact Customer Support at https://support.google.com/googleforwork/answer/142244#search. To log into the Google Cloud Technical Support web site, use the name and password included in the email sent to your primary contact who placed your order.
After replacing the failed power supply, dispose of the failed power supply in accordance with the recycle or disposal policy for your organization, locality, state, or country government.
The following illustrations show the power supply on the G100 and G500 search appliances:
To replace a failed power supply:
- Ensure that there is at least 14 inches (36 centimeters) of space behind the device so that you can remove the power supply. If not, slide the search appliance or processing unit out on its equipment rack rails to provide adequate work space.
- From the rear of the search appliance or processing unit, locate the failed power supply with the amber indicator light.
- Remove the power cord from the power supply.
- Push the orange release latch to the right to release the power supply and pull out the power supply using the handle at the rear of the unit.
- Slide out the power supply until it is free of its compartment.
- (Optional) You can reseat the power supply to see if the problem clears.
- After sliding out the power supply, place the unit aside.
- Unpack the replacement power supply.
- Slide the new power supply into the power supply compartment until the release latch engages.
- Plug the power cord into the power supply.

To verify that the new power supply works correctly:
- For a G100, G500 search appliance after replacing the power supply, the power supply’s indicator light displays as steady green.
