AdWords Express account creation guide for Google Ad Grants

To receive in-kind advertising through Google Ad Grants, you'll need to create an AdWords Express account. Creating an account should take you about 15 minutes. Because our requirements are very specific, please set up your account by carefully following this step-by-step guide.

Keep in mind

  • Ignore all alerts to add billing information.
  • Use the US Dollar (USD) as the currency, regardless of your location.

Get started with your AdWords Express account

1. Log into your Google Account.

  1. To create your AdWords Express account, click Get started. Get started
  2. Either enter the username and password for an existing Google Account or create a new one.


To access AdWords Express, you must have a Google Account. You'll need to choose an account not associated with existing paid AdWords or YouTube accounts.

2. Describe your business.

  1. Enter your business website and name.


    Check the box to receive account improvement tips and special offers.

  2. Click Save.

3. Select where to show your ad.

  1. Choose either Target by distance from business or Target by city, region, or country.
  2. Click Next.

4. Define your product or service.

  1. Choose the language you want to advertise in.
  2. Select the product or service to advertise.
  3. Under "Show your ad to people looking for," select 1 or more boxes that further describe your nonprofit organization.
  4. Click Next.

5. Create your ad.

  1. Follow the step-by-step instructions to create your ad.
  2. Click Next.

6. Set your budget.

  1. Set your budget to up to $329/day.


    Ad Grants accounts have a daily budget of $329 USD (or $10,000 per month). If you create more than 1 ad, the total of all of your ad budgets must not exceed $329 USD per day.

  2. Click Next.

7. Review your ad.

  1. Make sure the information in all the cards is accurate.
  2. Click Edit in any of the cards to make changes, and then click Save.
  3. Click Next.

8. Check out.

  1. You should see a message that this is an Ad Grants account and no billing setup is required.


    If you don’t see this message, you'll need to create a new account using the “Get started” button in step 1 of this guide. Note that you'll have to use a new login and password.

  2. Click Next.

9. Finish setup.

  1. Click Continue.

Setup is now complete!

10. Submit your account for review.

Now that you've created your account, the next step is to submit it to the Google Ad Grants team for review, using the application submission process for your country.

What happens next

Your account will be reviewed to ensure it complies with all Google advertising policies. Once your ad starts running, you'll be notified by email. If your account contains errors, you'll also receive an email asking you to make corrections to your account as needed.
