Cannot cast to smart TV using Google TV app

I have a new TV (LG C1 Series). From my Pixel 5, I can cast from the YouTube app to the TV. However, in the Google TV app, when I click the cast icon, the same TV is not showing up as a choice.

Luckily, I happen to have a separate Chromecast device, and the Google TV app casts to that without a problem. But I would like to see movies that I bought in Google TV on my smart TV without a separate Chromecast device. Is that supported?

From my iPad too, the TV is showing up in YouTube but not in Play Movies.

Hi Mike, I'd check to make sure you're using the same account for the phone/TV/device; I'd also check to make sure everything is on the same network.

Hi Gotham. Both my Pixel and my TV are on the same network, which is why I am able to cast from YouTube. In the Google TV app in my Pixel, I'm logged in as the same person that's logged into the YouTube app on the TV and the YouTube app on the Pixel. Is there another app on the TV to check?

There should be an overall setting for GoogleTV, then again, my GTV is bundled in a Chromecast device. When you cast, it has nothing to do with your YT app on the TV it's in the overall account settings for the TV. In my case, my GTV app is set up with my account. If I use any other app on my TV, it pulls the info from my GTV settings, not the app. If Google TV on the TV can't see your account, it won't flow to other things or lets say that's how it's always worked for me.

Do you see the TV in the Home app, your TV should be listed in the Home app as a castable device if you set it up properly using the Home app. Does your TV have Chromecast (CC) built-in? IF not, that could be the problem and explain why you have to cast to the CC device instead.

I guess my TV doesn't have Chromecast built in. It's got this other thing called WebOS from LG which seems to support some type of casting (from YouTube), but not from all Google apps (e.g. Google Photos, Google TV). I assumed that since YouTube was able to cast to my TV that it had Chromecast built it.

Some other owners of LG C1 Series have had similar experiences:

I'll keep my Chromecast device.
Yes, LG TVs use some weird casting setup -- at least mine does. So yeah, my recommendation is to keep your CC device. Otherwise, you'll need the LG app, and connect to it and then do all this extra configuration and other nonsense.
