Fix slow startup & audio issues on Google TV streaming devices

A connected Audio-Video Receiver (AVR) or soundbar between your Google TV Set-top boxes or streaming dongles and TV can often:

  • Cause delays when you turn on your TV with your connected Google TV devices.
  • Make HDMI features, like one-touch power and input switch, unreliable.

Fix the issue

Important: If you observe any delays or unreliability, try to disconnect the soundbar. Devices like AVRs or soundbars in the HDMI chain can cause a delay because each device needs time to process the signal.

  1. Test direct TV connection.
    1. From your AVR or soundbar, disconnect the Google TV device.
    2. On your TV, plug the Google TV device into an available HDMI port.
    3. Test the power on speed and Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) functions.
      • If issues are resolved, the AVR or soundbar causes delay or blocks CEC commands.
  2. If direct connection works, set up the audio.
    1. Keep the Google TV device connected directly to the TV.
    2. To get audio to your AVR or soundbar, on your TV, use the HDMI Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) or Audio Return Channel (ARC) port.
      • This allows audio to pass from the TV that includes the Google TV device’s audio to the sound system.
  3. Check CEC settings on all devices.
    • TV: Make sure HDMI CEC is turned on in your TV's settings.
      • Search for names like Bravia Sync, Anynet+, and SimpLink.
    • AVR or soundbar: Check that HDMI CEC is also turned on. Sometimes this setting is turned off.
    • Google TV device: The CEC is turned on by default.
