Some Google TV services use your data to help Google TV run even when you aren't using it.
How Ambient Mode and Backdrop Daydream workWhen you aren't using your TV, Ambient Mode and Backdrop Daydream can show your photos, art, the weather, game scores and more.
Important: Data is encrypted in transit except for some requests for publicly available images.
Ambient Mode
Google collects certain information to provide the Google TV Ambient Mode service. Some of this functionality uses Google Play services. For example, Google TV Ambient Mode may collect:
- Approximate location, user IDs and other personal info like device locale and time zone, app interactions, other user-generated content like Ambient Mode settings, and device IDs for app functionality, analytics and personalisation purposes
- Crash logs, diagnostics and other performance data for analytics purposes
Backdrop Daydream
Google collects certain information to provide the Backdrop Daydream service. For example, Backdrop Daydream may collect:
- Approximate location, some personal info like device locale and time format, app interactions, and device or other IDs for app functionality and analytics purposes
- Crash logs for analytics purposes
Tip: If you've linked your Spotify account with Google to enable Spotify services across Google products and services, then your user ID and other info, like locale and local time, may be shared with Spotify.
You can choose what is displayed on your TV screen when you're not using it. Content like photos can be personal, and Google TV gives you the option to choose which ones you'd like to show.
- From the Google TV home screen, select Settings System Ambient mode.
- Choose what you want to show:
- Google Photos: Choose photos or albums saved in your Google Photos account.
- Art gallery: Choose featured photos, fine art and more.
- Custom AI art: Use generative AI to create your own images.
