Find something to watch

You can find recommendations for things to watch on your Google TV’s home screen. You can also search for something specific or look for something to watch in a streaming app or on live TV.

Search for something to watch

On a Google TV device:

  1. On your remote, press the Google Assistant button Assistant.
  2. Type or say your search.
  3. You’ll find your results on the screen.

In the Google TV app:

  1. At the top left, tap Search Search.
  2. Type your search.
    • To speak your search, tap Microphone Voice search and then say your search. 
  3. You’ll find your results on the screen.
What you can search for
  • A specific show, like “Game of Thrones”
  • A genre, like “crime shows”
  • An actor or director, like “movies with Meryl Streep”
Remove recent searches
  1. On the top left of the Google TV home screen, go to the Search tab Assistant.
  2. Navigate to the search result you want to remove.
  3. On your remote, press and hold the Select button.
  4. Select Remove from this TV

Continue watching content you already started

If you start a show or movie, but don’t finish it, you can find it on the Google TV home screen under “Continue watching.”
Tip: If the service provider hasn’t made your content available, it won’t be listed under “Continue watching.”
Hide content from Continue watching

To hide a show or movie that you don’t want to finish watching: 

  1. On the Google TV home screen, select the "For you" tab. 
  2. Scroll to the “Continue watching” section.
  3. Highlight the content you want to hide. 
  4. Press and hold the select button on your remote.
  5. Select Hide.

Watch content from a streaming service

On a Google TV device:

You can: 

  • Search for a specific movie or show to open in a streaming app.
  • Browse a specific streaming app for something to watch. 
Tip: If the service you want isn’t installed on your device, learn how to install apps.

In the Google TV app:

  1. Search or browse to find something to watch.
  2. To check which services offer the title, select it. 
  3. Select the service you want to use. 
    • Tip: If there is more than one service, go to "More ways to watch."
  4. Choose a service, then follow the on-screen instructions.
Tip: To search for shows from a service, you can use search commands like “Hulu shows” or “free movies on HBO.”

Rent or buy a movie or show

On a Google TV device:

  1. Search for the title you want to rent or buy.
  2. Open the title’s details page.
  3. At the bottom, you’ll find the number of “ways to watch.” 
  4. Choose if you want to rent or buy the content.

In the Google TV app:

  1. Search or browse for the title you want to rent or buy.
  2. Open the title’s details page.
  3. Tap the down arrow Down arrowand then Google TV .
  4. Tap Rent or Buy.

Tip: When you rent or buy a video with Google TV,  it’s added to your library. Learn where else you can watch your videos.

Watch content you already bought

Important: If you bought content from Google Play Movies & TV, YouTube, or Google TV, you can find it in your Library. 

On a Google TV device:

  1. Make sure to purchase the content with your TV’s primary account.
  2. From the Google TV home screen, navigate to the “Library” section.
  3. You’ll find your movies and shows in different sections.

In the Google TV app:

  1. At the bottom, tap Library.
  2. You’ll find your movies and shows in different sections.
