Update your location settings in Google Play Music

When you start using Google Play Music, we’ll ask if you want to turn on location-based recommendations. This helps Google Play Music offer you personalized music recommendations based on where you are. You can adjust your location-based settings to turn them on or off.

Turn on location-based recommendations

  1. Open the Google Play Music app. 
  2. Select the menu and tap Settings.
  3. Under “Privacy & location,” tap Manage Google Location History
  4. Make sure Location History is turned on for your account.
Note: You may need to enable location permissions on your device for this to work. Navigate to your device's Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Google Play Music and make sure location access is set to “Always” for the best experience.

Turn off location-based recommendations

  1. Open the Google Play Music app. 
  2. Select the menu  and tap Settings.
  3. Under “Privacy & location,” tap Manage Google Location History
  4. Make sure Location History is turned off for your account.
Note: You can also turn off location-based recommendations by disabling location permissions for Google Play Music. Navigate to your device's Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Google Play Music and make sure location permissions are disabled.
