Invalid podcast image errors

If you get an "Invalid podcast image" error when you’re adding a podcast on the Google Play Music Podcast Portal, here are some of the most common ways to troubleshoot why the podcast image referenced by your podcast’s RSS feed is invalid.

URL

  • Your podcast’s Image URL needs to start with: http://, https://, or ftp://.
  • Make sure your podcast’s image loads at the URL included in your podcast’s RSS feed.

Tags

  • Your podcast’s image needs to be included in your podcast’s RSS feed using one of the following tags: <googleplay:image>, <itunes:image> or <image>.
  • If a <googleplay:image> tag isn’t included, <itunes:image> will be used instead.
  • <image> is only used if <googleplay:image> or <itunes:image> aren’t included.
    • If you include a <googleplay:image> or <itunes:image> tag and a <image> tag, only your <googleplay:image> or <itunes:image> tag will be used. Make sure your <googleplay:image> or <itunes:image> URL loads and includes an image that meets Google Play Music Podcast Portal’s format, size, and shape specifications.

Format

  • Make sure your podcast image is in JPEG or PNG format.
    • Other image types like PDF or GIF can’t be used.

Size & shape

  • Check if your image is square-shaped (equal height and width). All podcast images need to be square.
  • Your podcast’s image needs to be at least 600 x 600 pixels.
    • The recommended image size is between 1200 x 1200 and 7000 x 7000 pixels.
    • If your podcast's image is smaller than 1200 x 1200 pixels, you'll see a warning when adding your podcast.
