How do I install Google Play on Android 2.2.2?

Hi! I have an old phone/tablet with Android 2.2.2, which I still want to perform some basic things. It used to have Play Store, probably as a result of updates. Now I reset it to original settings and Play Store turned back to the Market app. This app, though, would only load the terms of service without an option to accept them (I guess, because they are no longer supported). Is there a way for me to install Play Store again? Thanks!

Hi NataF,

Welcome to the Google Play Help Forum.

I understand your concern regarding the Google Play Store app missing on your device. The Play app comes pre-installed on most devices that support Android, however there are some exemptions to this. On your device if you are running Android version older than 2.2 then you may have Android Market installed instead of Google Play. Prior to Android 2.2, Google Play was called Android Market. Google Play is only available on devices running later versions of Android. However, I'd suggest you see if your device works with Google Play by checking the supported devices list.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Best,
Brad

Hi Brad,

thanks for your answer. I have already checked the list and my device is supported, but I could not access it yesterday. Today something changed, maybe the device needed time to update after the reset, and now Google Play appeared again.

Best,
Natalia

Hi Natalia - I have exactly the same issue with the same phone - I had Play Store on the phone, but after a factory reset I lost it and then it wouldn't upgrade from Market, and market wont open. But mine still does the same so I didn't have your good luck :)

Just checking - do you also get an authentication error if you click the Software Update app? Thanks

Oops - just realised you didn't say which phone you had... I have so many tabs open about my old LG-P350 that I thought I was on one of those threads :)

It was an old ViewSonic tablet, so I don't think my case is very relevant. Anyway, I don't have access to it right now and cannot check whether I would get an authentication error. Sorry about that.

Hi folks,
I have a similar issue as NataF. I factory reset my LG P999 (supported as per Brad's list) phone, and Google Play got reset to Android Market. The market app provides a server error after I accept terms of service. Please advise if I can revive this phone by loading Play store again. Thanks a bunch...
