Organise and sort books in your library

To make it easier to find a book, you can organise the books in your library. ​

When you hide a book from your library, it’ll only be shown on your hidden shelf on the web. It won’t appear in the rest of your library or on your devices. If you want to remove them permanently, you can do it through the Library on Google Play web.

Organise your books in groups

Select multiple books at a time

1. Open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library.
3. Tap and hold the first book that you want to select.
4. Tap other books to add them to the selection.

Tip: Once you complete your selection of books, you can take the following actions in bulk:

• Add to shelf
• Download
• Remove download
• Mark as finished or not finished
• Add to Family Library or Remove from Family Library
• Hide

Create a shelf

1. Open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library  Shelves  Create new.
3. To name your new shelf, tap the title. 
4. To save, tap Done .

Add books to a shelf

1. Open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library.
3. Tap and hold the book that you want to add to a shelf. Select more to add multiple books.
4. Tap Add to shelf.
5. Tap the desired shelf.

Tip: To add books to a shelf from the shelf directly, tap Add books.

Hide and unhide purchased books

To hide purchased books:

1. On your Android device, go to your Library.
2. Touch and hold the book that you want to hide.
3. Tap Hide book.

To unhide purchased books:

1. Go to your hidden books.
2. On the book that you want to unhide, tap Menu Unhide book.

Remove a book from a shelf

1. Open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library.
3. Go to the shelf.
4. Tap and hold the book that you want to remove.
5. Tap Remove from this shelf.

Filter books by genre, author, progress and more

Important: These filters are only available on Play Books app version 5.3 and up. 

1. Open the Google Play Books app  .
2. Tap Library.
3. Tap the filters that you want to apply.
4. Scroll to find the results.

Tip: To apply multiple filters quickly, tap Filters , select multiple filters, then tap Apply. This feature is only available on the Android Play Books app version 2023.04.17.00 and up.

Find books that you haven't started

1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library.
3. Scroll through the filters and tap Progress.
4. Tap Not started.

Find all the books in a series

1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library.
3. At the top, tap Series.

Tips:

• This list displays all the books in the series, not just the ones that you own.
• To find the books that you own, in the ownership drop-down menu, select Owned or Unowned.
• You can organise a series by 'Series order' or 'Reverse series order'.

Find a book's series information

1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library.
3. Tap and hold the book for which you want to find the series.
4. Tap View series.

Find a book or author with the alphabetical index

Important: This feature is only available on the Android Play Books app version 2023.04.17.00 and up.

1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library.
3. Tap Filter view Select List view.
4. Sort by Author or Title.
5. Use the index to scroll to a specific letter in the alphabet.

Tip: The index appears if you have more than 25 books available after you apply filters. When you sort by recent, the index doesn't appear.

Find pre-orders or upcoming books that you’re interested in

You can display existing pre-orders, upcoming books from series that you subscribe to and books available for pre-order in your library. Learn more about pre-orders and series subscriptions.

1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Books app .
2. Tap Library Upcoming.
