Music library won’t sync to phone or tablet

If music you've recently purchased from the Google Play Store or uploaded from your computer isn't showing in your Google Play Music library, try the steps below. Check your library after each step to see if it has synced correctly.

Step 1: Refresh your library

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Play Music.
  2. Tap Menu Menu.
  3. Make sure the Downloaded only switch is off. The switch is gray when it's off.
  4. Tap Settings > Refresh.
  5. Wait two minutes, and view your library again.

Step 2: Check if you're on the right account

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Play Music.
  2. Tap Menu Menu > Settings.
  3. Make sure that you're signed in to the same account you used when buying or uploading your music.
  4. To use a different account, tap Google account (Android) or Sign out (iPhone or iPad).

Note: If you recently changed the password for your Google Account, you may need to sign in again using your new password to update your library. If you don't know your username or password, go to Google Account Recovery for help.

Step 3: Check sync settings

Android users: To make sure your library is being automatically updated, check the sync settings on your device.

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap Accounts > Google.
  3. Tap the account you use with Google Play Music.
  4. Make sure the checkbox next to Google Play Music is checked.

iPhone and iPad users: Skip this step and follow the instructions in the next step.

Step 4: Clear your app's data

Important: Keep in mind clearing your app's data erases your Google Play Music settings. This means songs you have previously downloaded to your device will be deleted, and you will need to download them again.

On Android

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap Apps or Application manager (depending on your device, this may be different).
  3. Tap Google Play Music > Clear data.
  4. Sign in to your Play Music app. The Play Music app may take a few minutes to update.

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Play Music.
  2. Tap Menu Menu > Settings > Reset application data > OK.
  3. Sign in to your Play Music app. The Play Music app may take a few minutes to update.

Step 5: (If you use 2-step verification) Step Check your App Password

If you're using 2-step verification on your account, you may need to remove an App Password or create a new one. Learn how in the Google Accounts Help Center.

If you’ve followed the steps above, and your music still isn't showing up on your device, contact our support team for help.
