Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play

Subscriptions on Google Play are for an indefinite term, and you’ll be charged at the beginning of each billing cycle according to your subscription terms (for example, weekly, annually, or another period), unless you unsubscribe.

Make sure to sign in to the Google Account that has your subscriptions.

Cancel a subscription

You can use our self-help flow to cancel a subscription.

Cancel a subscription

Cancel a subscription on the Google Play app

Important: When you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel.
  1. On your Android device, go to subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the instructions.
Tip: If you have a subscription with an app and the app gets removed from Google Play, your future subscription will be canceled. Your past subscriptions can’t be refunded, with some exceptions as specified in this article or in Google Play’s refund policies.
What happens after you cancel
Important: If you've committed to multiple payments for your subscription by purchasing with a payment plan, refer to the section below titled “What happens after you stop renewal on a payment plan” for information about canceling.

When you cancel a subscription you’ll still be able to use your subscription for the time you’ve already paid.

For example, if you buy a one-year subscription on January 1 for $10 and decide to cancel your subscription on July 1:

  • You’ll have access to the subscription until December 31.
  • You won’t be charged another yearly subscription of $10 the following January 1.

What happens after you cancel Play Pass

Any apps you installed from Play Pass and their data will remain on your device.

For content you obtained via Play Pass:

  • Paid apps will prompt you to buy the app or subscribe to Play Pass.
  • In-app purchases will be removed, but available for individual purchase.
  • Ads will reappear in apps where they were removed.
  • If you join Play Pass again, all this content will be unlocked again.
What happens after you cancel a prepaid plan

Prepaid plans last for a limited time, so you don’t need to cancel them. They automatically expire at the end of the billing period.

If your prepaid plan hasn’t been used, you can request a refund for it. Learn more about refunds on Google Play.

To cancel an unused prepaid subscription plan:

  1. On your Android device, go to subscriptions on Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription or prepaid plan you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.

What happens after you stop renewal on a payment plan

Once your payment method is charged for a payment plan, you can’t cancel any remaining payments for that payment plan. However, you can choose to stop your payment plan from auto-renewing. This means you won’t be charged on your next subscription renewal date (which you can view in Subscriptions on Google Play or on your email receipt), and you can continue to access your content until then. If you choose to stop your payment plan from renewing, you’ll still be responsible for any remaining payments on your current payment plan. Google Play will not issue refunds except as otherwise provided in Google Play's Refund Policy.

See Subscribe to services or content for more information.

  2. Select the subscription you want to update.
  3. Tap Manage and then  Update.

Change between subscriptions & prepaid plans

If the app developers allow, you can switch from a prepaid plan to a recurring subscription or from a recurring subscription to a prepaid plan.

When you switch, payments are processed immediately. Any days left on active subscriptions or plans are added on to the new subscription.

Tip: You can check if your subscription is recurring or a prepaid plan when you sign in to Subscriptions.

To change a prepaid subscription plan if allowed by developers:

  1. Open the Google Play app Google Play.
  2. Make sure you’re signed in to the correct Google Account.
  3. Find and open the app that offers to upgrade from a prepaid plan to a subscription or downgrade from a subscription to a prepaid plan.
  4. Tap Manage subscription.
  5. Select the new plan you want to change to.
  6. Select a supported payment method.
  7. Tap Buy or Subscribe.
