Fix problems using Google Play Books

If you’re having problems downloading, reading or listening to eBooks or audiobooks, try the steps below.

Fix problems loading your book

If your eBook or audiobook won’t open or download, try these steps:

Step 1: Check your connection and updates
  1. Make sure that your iPhone or iPad is connected to Wi-Fi or a 3G/4G mobile network.
  2. Make sure that your app is updated with the latest version.
Step 2: Reload and re-download
  1. To remove the eBook or audiobook, on the cover, tap More 더보기and then Remove download.
  2. To reload and open the eBook or audiobook, tap its cover again.
  3. If that doesn’t work, go to Step 3.
Step 3:  Check on the Web whether the book is hidden
  1. On your iPhone or iPad's mobile browser, go to the Play Store.
  2. On the left, tap Account.
  3. Under 'Purchase history', find the book that you’re looking for.
  4. On the left, tap More Moreand then Show or hide from my library.
  5. If you see 'This item is currently hidden', tap Show in my library.
Step 4: Clear your app data
Sign out, then sign back into the Google Play Books app.
If these steps don’t work, the file type may not be supported by Google Play Books.

Find a book in your library

If you can’t find an eBook or audiobook that you bought in your library, follow these steps:

Step 1: Make sure that you're signed in to the right account
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. At the left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap the Down arrow Down arrow. Select the account that you used to buy the eBook or audiobook. If you don’t see your account, you can add an account in the Google app.
Step 2: Check whether you bought the book
  1. Open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. At the bottom, tap Library.
  3. Select 'Purchases'. If you bought the eBook or audiobook, it appears in the list.

Fix 'device limit reached' problem

Most books limit how many devices you can download them on at the same time. You can remove the book from one of your devices without deleting it from your library.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. At the bottom, tap Library.
  3. Find the eBook or audiobook that you want to remove.
  4. Under the cover, tap Remove Download Removeand then Remove and then Delete from Library and then Delete.
To delete the eBook or audiobook from your library on all devices permanently, tap Delete from library Delete.

Fix problems playing audiobooks

Step 1: Check the sound on your device
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings.
  2. Tap Sounds.
  3. Make sure that the device volume isn't muted.
Step 2: Check your device storage
If your audiobook stops playing abruptly, you may not have enough space on your device. Clear space on your device, then re-download the book.
Step 3: Disconnect from a Bluetooth or Cast device
If your iPhone or iPad is paired with a Bluetooth or Cast device, disconnect and play the audiobook again.
