Problems finding or opening a book you bought

Can't find a book

If you’re having trouble finding a book in your library, try the following.

Sign in to the Google Account you used to buy the book (mobile)
  1. Open the Google Play Books app.
  2. Touch Menu Burger nav.
  3. Touch the down arrow and choose the account you used to buy the book.

If you don’t see your account, you’ll need to add it to your device.

Make sure you didn’t touch Delete forever

If you selected Menu vertical menu > Delete forever for a book, it will no longer show up in your library. To get it back in your library, you'll need to buy it again.

Clear your app data

If you still can’t find the book you’re looking for, you can also try clearing your Google Play Books app data.

On your Android device

  1. On your Android device, open the Settings app > Application manager.
  2. Touch Google Play Books > Clear data.
  3. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a 3G/4G mobile network.
  4. Open Google Play Books and sign in.

Note: After you sign in to the same account you used to buy the books, you'll see the books you previously downloaded but you'll need to download them again.

On your iOS device

To clear your app cache on your iOS device, you’ll need to sign out and sign back in to the Google Play Books app.

Can't open or load a book

If a book doesn’t load or open when you touch the cover, try the following:

On your mobile device

  1. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a 3G/4G mobile network.
  2. Make sure your Play Books app is up to date with the latest version.
  3. Remove the book download by touching Menu vertical menu on the book’s cover > Remove download. Touch the book’s cover to reload and open it.
  4. If that doesn’t work, follow the directions under “Clear your app data” above.

Only seeing a few pages or book is still a “sample” (mobile)

Try the following:

  1. Open the Google Play Books app and touch Menu Burger nav > Refresh.
  2. If that doesn’t fix the problem, try the steps in the “Clear your app data (Android)” section above.
