Watch movies & TV offline

You can download movies and TV shows on Android mobile devices, iOS mobile devices, and Chromebooks, so you can watch them using the Google Play Movies & TV app without a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.

Download videos for offline viewing on your Android or iOS mobile device

  1. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or your mobile network.
  2. Open the Google Play Movies & TV app Google Play Movies.
  3. Touch the download icon Download.

Note: To remove or stop a download in progress, tap the download icon again.

Offline viewing on multiple devices

Purchased videos

You can download purchased movies and shows on up to five devices using the same account. If you want to download a video to a sixth device, you'll need to remove all your downloaded content from one of the first five devices. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Play Movies & TV app Google Play Movies.
  2. Touch the red check mark next to a downloaded video .

If removing your video(s) doesn't solve the problem, contact our support team.

Rented videos

You can download movies and shows you've rented to one device at a time. Once you've downloaded a video to one device, you won't be able to stream it on another.

If you want to stream or download the video on another device, you'll need to remove it from the first device. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Play Movies & TV app Google Play Movies.
  2. Touch the red check mark next to a downloaded video .

If removing your video doesn't solve the problem, contact our support team.

Manage your downloads

Using the Google Play Movies & TV app, you can change your download preferences, view only the content that's been downloaded to your device, and see how much space your downloads take up.

Download over mobile networks

Depending on your mobile data plan, downloading your video when not connected to Wi-Fi may result in additional charges. By default, videos download on Wi-Fi only. If you wish to download using your mobile network:

  1. Open the Google Play Movies & TV app Google Play Movies.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Movies Menu icon > Settings > Network > Download on any network.

Note: If mobile data isn't available on your device, you won't see this option.

Find downloaded movies and TV shows

To see only your downloaded movies and TV shows:

  1. Open the Google Play Movies & TV app Google Play Movies.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Movies Menu icon > Downloaded only.

When you have Downloaded only selected, the switch will be red and you will see a banner across the top of your screen. Touch the switch or banner again to view all videos in your library.

View your download queue

To see and manage your device's downloads:

On Android

  1. Open the Google Play Movies & TV app Google Play Movies.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Movies Menu icon > Settings > Manage downloads.

On certain devices, you can choose to download videos to internal storage or an SD card in the app's Settings menu by touching Storage.

Note: Videos downloaded to an SD card can't be transferred to another device.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Visit your device's main Settings menu.
  2. Touch General.

Once a video has been downloaded, it's stored in your device's local storage and cannot be moved to an SD card or other external storage.

Notes:

  • Movies and TV shows purchased on Google Play cannot be downloaded to Android TVs or computers, except for Chromebooks.
  • When you download a video that's available in multiple languages, you can choose to play the video in its original language or your language (when available). You can't change the audio language once the video has been downloaded.
