You can save movies and TV shows for offline viewing on your mobile device so you can watch them without a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection using the Google Play Movies Google Play Movies & TV app. By saving a movie or show for offline viewing, you can take your favorite videos with you when you're traveling or other times when you might not have Internet access.

Note: Movies and TV shows purchased on Google Play cannot be saved to your computer or iOS device at this time.

Here's how you can save movies and shows for offline viewing on your Android device.

  1. Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or has a strong Internet connection.
  2. Open the Google Play Movies Google Play Movies & TV app.
  3. Touch the Google Play Pin grey, angled pin icon under a video to begin saving a movie or show to your device.
  4. Once your video has been saved to your device, it will display a Google Play Movies offline red, vertical pin.
    • To remove or stop a download in progress, tap the Google Play Movies offline pin icon and select Remove.
You can quickly find all movies and TV shows you’ve saved on your device through your Google Play Movies and TV app's On Device menu located on the app’s main navigation.

Once a video has been saved, it’s stored in your device's local storage and cannot be moved to an SD card or other external storage. You can see your device's available storage by visiting your main Settings menu > Storage.

Download only on Wi-Fi

Depending on your mobile data plan, downloading your movie when not connected to Wi-Fi may result in additional charges. To help avoid additional charges, you can choose to download videos only on Wi-Fi by following these steps:

Note: If you’re using a device that doesn’t have a mobile data connection (Wi-Fi only), this option won’t be available through your app settings because your device always uses a Wi-Fi connection.

  1. Open the Google Play Movies Google Play Movies & TV app.
  2. Touch the Google Play Movies Play Movies icon > Settings.
  3. Under "Downloads," select Network > Download only on Wi-Fi.

Offline viewing on multiple devices

Purchased movies or TV shows

You can save a movie or TV show that you purchased on up to five devices at once.

If you have reached the five device limit for a movie or show, you can remove the saved movie or TV from a device by touching the Google Play Movies offline red pin icon > Remove on the Google Play Movies & TV app. Once you’ve removed the video from a device, you’ll be able to save it to another device.

Rented movies or TV shows

Rentals can be downloaded to one device at a time. After you’ve saved a rented video on one of your devices, you won’t be able to stream the video on your computer or other devices you’re using with the same Google Account.

To stream videos on your computer or a different device during your rental period, remove the saved video from your device by touching the Google Play Movies offline red pin icon > Remove on the Google Play Movies & TV app.
