Buy, send, and redeem gifts on Google Play

You can send gifts of Google Play credit and Google Play Music subscriptions by email in some countries. To send a gift, your recipient must be registered for Google Play in the same country as you. Physical Google Play gift cards are also available in select countries. To find a retailer near you, go to Google Play Gift Cards.

At this time, you can't send other digital content as gifts or lend digital content to another account.

Buy and send gifts

Send a digital gift using your computer
  1. Go to the website for your digital gift:
    For Play credit gifts, go to play.google.com/store/gift.
    For Google Play Music subscription gifts, go to play.google.com/music/gift.
  2. Select a gift option.
  3. If prompted, sign in to your Google account.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your gift recipient's name, email address, and a message.
  5. Review your order. If needed, you can update your payment method.
  6. Select Buy. An email with a gift code will be sent to the recipient immediately.

Note: If your recipient deleted or can't find the email with the gift code, you can resend the email. A copy of the gift email is sent to the email account you used to make the purchase with, and you can forward the email to the recipient.

Send music subscription gifts using the Play Music app

You can send music subscription gifts through the Google Play Music app:

  1. Open the Google Play Music App Google Play Music Icon.
  2. Touch Menu Google Play Store Menu Icon > Settings.
  3. Touch Send a gift.
  4. Pick your gift and follow the onscreen instructions to buy and send your gift.

Content can't be transferred between accounts

It is not possible to transfer content between accounts on Google Play, even if you own both accounts. If you have multiple accounts on your device, make sure you’re signed in to the account you want to use before you complete your purchase. 

If you’ve bought an app on the wrong account contact the app developer. They may be able to refund your purchase so you can buy it again on the account you wanted to use.

Redeem gifts and request refunds

Redeem a gift

Redeem gifts:

To redeem a gift, find the email you received from the purchaser of your gift and select Redeem Gift. If you deleted or can't find the email, contact the purchaser and they can resend the email to you. See redeem a gift card or promo code for more information on redeeming gifts.

Google Play credit gift info:

  • If you're redeeming a gift of Google Play credit, the value of the gift will be added to your Google Play balance and can be used for many purchases on Google Play.
  • Find out more about what you can buy with Google Play balance.
  • If you don't already have one you will be asked to create a billing profile when you redeem your gift.

Subscription gift info:

  • If you're redeeming a subscription you won't have to enter any additional payment details.
  • If you're interested, you'll be given the option to continue your subscription past the length of time covered by the gift.
Trouble redeeming a gift

Code or gift cannot be redeemed in your country

In order to redeem a Google Play gift, your current location or the home address in your Google Account needs to match the country where the gift was purchased. If you are in a different country, the person who sent you this gift should ask for a refund at play.google.com/store/account.

If you have an active YouTube Red subscription

Play Music gift cards can't be added to YouTube Red subscriptions. If you have a YouTube Red subscription, then you already have access to Play Music. Find out how to use your Play Music subscription

The person who sent you this gift should ask for a refund at play.google.com/store/account.

Return or refund a gift

Refund availability

Note: this applies only to gifts of Google Play credit or Google Play Music subscriptions purchased through Google. If your gift was purchased through a third-party retailer, contact the retailer for refund information. 

If you want to return your gift, let the purchaser know so they can contact us. Note:

  • We can only issue a refund to the person who purchased the gift. 
  • Refunds can only be issued for gifts which have not been redeemed.
  • The gift code is not redeemable once the gift is refunded. 
  • Refunds for Google Play credit gifts are only available for 3 months after the date of purchase. 

 

Request a gift refund

  1. Open a web browser (like Chrome or Safari) on your computer, tablet, or phone.
  2. Copy https://play.google.com/store/account and paste it into the address bar of the web browser.
    • Make sure this is in a web browser and not the Google Play Store app. You can't request a refund for publications in Play apps.
  3. Scroll down to "Order History" and find the order you want to return. To the right of the order, click the menu icon More.
    • Note: On mobile phones and tablets, you may need to swipe to the right to view the menu icon.
  4. Select Report a problem and choose the option that describes your situation.
  5. Complete the form and note that you would like a refund.
  6. You will see a message saying "thank you for sharing your concerns." Later you will receive an email about your refund.
