Change a video's language settings

Movies and TV shows have different language options available for audio playback, captions, and subtitles.

Find language & subtitle details

  1. On your computer, go to Google Play Movies & TV.
  2. Find a movie or TV show.
  3. Under "Additional information," find "Audio language" and "Subtitles."
Tip: Set your language settings before downloading your video. You won’t be able to change the audio language once a video has been downloaded. In some countries and regions, the audio language may not be set by the desired language.

Change audio language & subtitle settings

When a video has multiple languages, you can change your preferred audio or subtitle language. You can also set up default language settings that will be used across all videos you rent or buy.

  1. At the bottom or top right of your video player, tap Show closed captions and audio Show closed captions and audio menu.
  2. Under "Audio" or "Subtitles,” select a language.

Important: Some movies may have permanent subtitles, which can't be turned off.
