Read books on Google Play

After you buy & download e-books on Google Play, you can:

  • Read online or read offline
  • Read e-books on more than one device
  • Jump to a different part of the e-book
  • Change the font, brightness, and other display options

Open an e-book

  1. Open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. At the bottom, tap Library Library.
  3. To open an e-book, tap the cover.

Change font, text size, & display

  1. Open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. Open the e-book.
  3. Tap the center of the page.
  4. At the top right, tap Display options Display options.
    • To change font, text size, and line spacing, make changes under Display options Display options.
    • To change brightness, background color, make changes under Tone. To set your screen to adjust based on time of day, tap SettingsSettings
  5. To return to reading, tap outside the display options box.

Change screen rotation, page turns, & accessibility options

  1. Open the Google Play Books app Play Books.
  2. Tap Menu Menuand then Settings.
  3. Make your changes.

Jump to pages, chapters & bookmarks

To move quickly between pages, chapters, and bookmarks, open the e-book you’re reading, then follow the steps.

Skim through pages
  1. Tap the center of the page.
  2. Swipe to quickly flip through pages. You can also slide the bar at the bottom of the screen.
  3. To go back to the page you started on, at the top of the bar, tap the page thumbnail.
Jump to a chapter, bookmark, or note
  1. At the bottom, tap Contents Table of contents .
  2. Select Chapters, Bookmarks, or Notes

Read on a different device

When you open your e-book on a different device from the one you started on, it’ll automatically open to where you left off. Make sure:

  • Your device is connected to the internet when you stop and start reading your e-book.
  • You’re signed in to the same account for Google Play Books on both devices.

If your e-book doesn’t open to the right page, try swiping forward or backward and check your Wi-Fi connection.

Note: If you transferred the e-book to your device using Adobe Digital Editions, page positions won’t sync.
