Book insights is available on select English-language titles, including thousands available at no charge.
Ask a question
If you want more clarity without leaving the page, with Book insights, you can ask questions about themes, contexts, and characters.
- Highlight a character’s name, a place, or a phrase.
- Select Book insights.
- Ask one of the suggested questions or enter your own in the “Ask Play Books” box.
Catch me up
If you need a refresher after a reading break, to get back on track with an overview of what you’ve read so far, you can use “Catch me up.”
- In the menu, at the top of your screen, click Book insights
.
- Click Catch me up.
Eligible Books for Book insights
Some books aren’t eligible for Book insights, either because the publisher hasn’t enabled the feature or because of the book’s language or formatting. The number of enabled books changes over time.
Book insights & Generative AI

- Generative AI can make mistakes.

Troubleshooting
Fix problems with Book insights
- The ebook may need to be re-downloaded. You can remove and then download the ebook again.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Books app.
- On the cover of the ebook that isn’t working, touch and hold and then select Remove download
OK.
- Make sure you’re connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network.
- Tap the cover of the ebook to re-download.
