Turn on background data

To use the Play Store app, you'll need to turn background data on for your device. This means apps may download data for future reference or provide you with notifications even when you're not using the app.

On Android 5.0 or higher
  1. Open your device's main Settings app.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks" or "Connections," touch Data usage.
  3. In the top right corner, touch the Menu icon Store three-dots menu.
  4. To turn on background data, touch Allow background data. If you see Restrict background data, you don't need to make any changes.
On Android 4.4 or lower
  1. Open your device's main Settings app.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," touch Data usage.
  3. In the top right corner, touch the Menu icon Store three-dots menu.
  4. Touch the box next to "Auto-sync data."
  5. When the dialog box "Turn auto-sync data on?" appears, touch OK.

Note: On some devices, your background data options may be under Settings > Battery & Data Manager > Delivery > Background data.
