Download music to your device or computer

You can download music from your Google Play library on your mobile device or computer so you can listen when you don't have an Internet connection.

If you subscribe to Google Play Music, any songs that you've downloaded to your device as part of your subscription will be available offline as long as your subscription is active.

Download music on your phone or tablet

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Google Play Music Icon.
  2. Touch an album or playlist.
  3. To start downloading, touch the Download icon Download.
    • An orange icon Downloaded means music is downloaded on your device.

You can also save albums, playlists, and radio stations (for subscribers) by touching Menu Menu > Download.

Note: If you sign in to a different account on Google Play Music, you'll need to download your songs again to listen to them offline.

Find downloaded music

To see only your downloaded music:

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Google Play Music Icon.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Google Play Music Menu icon > Downloaded Only.

When you have Downloaded only selected, the switch will be orange and you will see a banner across the top of your screen. Touch the switch or banner again to view all music in your library.

View your download queue

To see and manage your device's downloads:

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Google Play Music Icon.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Google Play Music Menu icon > Settings > Manage downloads.

Save music to an SD card - Android 4.4 (KitKat)

Some Android devices support external SD card memory. If your Android device is running Android 4.4 (KitKat), here's how to save music to your SD card.

  1. Open the Google Play Music app Google Play Music Icon.
  2. Touch the Menu icon Google Play Music Menu icon > Settings > Storage location > External.

You can save music to your SD card, but you can't transfer music from your SD card to another device.

(Experimental SD card support is available for some older devices)

Download music on your computer

  1. Go to Google Play Music.
  2. On the left menu under "Auto playlists," click Free and purchased.
  3. Next to a song, click Menu Menu > Download.
    • You can download a purchased song two times.

Download all purchased music

You can use Google Play Music Manager to download all of your purchased music.

  1. Open Google Play Music Manager.
  2. Click Download > Download purchased music.
