Music won't start playing

If you’re having trouble playing music on Google Play, here are some troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshooting

Check your Internet connection
You may have issues playing music if you lose your internet connection or your connection speed changes. Check if you can load other web pages to test your connection.
Listen using one device at a time
Your Google Play Music account only works on one device at a time. Before listening to Play Music on another device, stop playback on the device you're using.

Using your computer

Check if JavaScript is turned on
  1. Make sure you’re using the latest version of Chrome Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer.
  2. Check if your browser has JavaScript turned on.
    • If you're using Google Chrome, Javascript is turned on automatically.
Check Adobe Flash Player settings
  1. Make sure you’ve installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.
  2. Check if your browser has Adobe Flash Player turned on. Select your browser below for instructions.
Google Chrome
  1. Open Chrome Google Chrome.
  2. In the address bar, type chrome:plugins and press Enter.
  3. Under “Adobe Flash Player”, click Enable to turn Flash Player on.
Firefox or Internet Explorer
  1. Open Firefox or Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools > Add-ons.
  3. Click Enable next to Adobe Flash Player.
Safari
  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click Preferences > Security
  3. Check the box next to Enable plug-ins.

If you’re using Google Chrome, Safari 3.1, or Internet Explorer 9 or higher, you can listen to music without using Flash.

  1. Go to Google Play Music (play.google.com/music).
  2. Click the Settings Gear icon.
  3. Select Labs.
  4. Next to the HTML5 option, click Enabled.
  5. Click Save Changes.
If you've installed third-party browser extensions, some may cause issues with Google Play Music. Try disabling any third-party extensions to see if they're causing issues.

Using your mobile device

Sign into your account again

If you recently changed your account password, you may need to sign in to Google Play Music again.

  1. Open the Google Play Music Icon Google Play Music App.
  2. Touch the Google Play Music Icon Google Play Music icon.
  3. Touch Settings.
  4. Touch Google account.
  5. Select the account you use with Play Music.
    • If you're asked to sign in again, enter your password.
