What to do when the Play Store shows the wrong country or currency

What you can find in the Play Store depends on your Google Play country, which is based on your payment method.

Your Google Play country also determines which currency you use in the Play Store:

  • When you travel, your country and currency don’t change.
  • Changing the language does not change the country or currency you use.
  • You can’t change your Play country temporarily.
  • Country changes can only happen once per year.

If your device displays the wrong country or currency, check that your Play country is correct.

If you use a Google Fi device, you can’t change your country.

Check your Play country

  1. Sign in to Google Pay.
  2. At the top, click Settings.
  3. Under "Payments profile," look for “Country/Region.” This section displays your current Play country.
  4. If it’s incorrect, create a new profile for your country.

Tip: If you recently changed your country, wait at least 48 hours for the change to take effect.

Fix issues with your Play country

Use the steps below if you can’t change your country or if you get the wrong country information in the Play Store. After each step, check the Play Store again to find out if the issue is fixed. It can take 24 hours for changes to take effect.

Change the SIM card

If your phone has a SIM card and you recently moved to another country, you may need a new SIM card. Contact your service provider for help.

After you get a new SIM card in your new country, restart your phone. Then, try to use the Play Store again.

If your device doesn’t have a SIM card, you can skip this step.

Lower your Play balance

If your Play balance is too high for your new country, you may need to spend some of your balance to meet the threshold. Find maximum limits for your country.

Make sure your payment profile is up to date

  1. Sign in to Google Pay.
  2. If you have more than one profile:
    1. At the top left, next to your name, click the Down arrow .
    2. Choose the profile you want to edit.
  3. Make your edits. You can change information like your address and payment methods.
  4. Save your edits.

Accept updated Terms of Service

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. Find an item with a listed price greater than $0.
  3. Tap the price. You don’t need to complete the transaction.
