Compare your app’s Android vitals and ratings with custom peer groups

With custom peer groups, you can compare your app’s Android vitals and ratings data with a group of apps that you select.

Here are a few important things to know about custom peer groups:

  • You can create two custom peer groups: one for Android vitals and another for ratings.
  • You can edit a custom peer group for Android vitals up to three times per month.
  • Once you create a custom peer group for Android vitals or ratings, you can select it on other pages within that section.
  • If an app in a custom peer group becomes unavailable (e.g. unpublished apps or apps that opt out from peer benchmarking), it’s replaced with a recommended app.

Edit a custom peer group

Here’s how to edit a custom peer group:

  1. Open Play Console.
  2. Select an app.
    • Android vitals: At the left menu, click Android vitals > Overview > View details on a card.
    • Ratings: On the left menu, click User feedback > Ratings.
  3. Near the top of the page, in the peer comparison card, select Edit peer group.
  4. Choose apps from the recommended set or search for other apps by app or package name.
    • Note: If you’re creating a custom peer group for Android vitals, you need to select 8 to 12 apps.
    • To add an app, select the + icon.
    • To remove an app, select the X icon.
  5. Add apps to your peer group and then select Update.

Tip: When you’re comparing your app with a custom peer group, you can move your cursor over an individual app’s icon to see how your app’s data compare to that specific app.

Opt out of peer benchmarking for Android vitals

If you opt out of peer benchmarking for Android vitals, you won’t be able to see how your app compares with your Android vitals custom peer group, and other developers won’t be able to choose your app for their peer group. The first time that you opt out, this can take up to 48 hours.

Your app’s ratings data will still be included in overall category comparisons, and you can still see how your app’s ratings compare to other apps in the same category.

Note: After you opt out of peer benchmarking, your Android vitals data will temporarily remain combined with other apps’ data to calculate median benchmarking data. The first time that you opt out, your data will be removed from peer sets within 48 hours. If you opt out again, your data will be removed from peer sets at the end of the calendar month.

Here’s how to opt out of peer benchmarking:

  1. Open Play Console.
  2. Select an app.
  3. On the left menu, click Android vitals > Overview > View details on a card.
  4. Near the top of the page, in the peer comparison card, select the question mark icon > Opt out.
  5. Untick the box for 'Share data to use Android vitals custom peer groups'.
  6. Click Opt out.
