Delete an app

This guide explains how to permanently delete an app from your Google Play Console account and outlines what happens to your app data and package name. Please note that only the account owner has the capability to delete an app. As a developer account owner, use these steps to complete a self-service deletion.

App deletion requirements

To be eligible for self-service deletion via the UI, you must be an admin of the developer account and provide the transaction ID for the app. Your app must meet the following requirements:

  • The app must be unpublished and any changes in review resolved.
  • The app must be installed on fewer than 1000 active devices. An "active device" is defined as one that has been turned on at least once in the past 30 days.
  • The app must not be rejected, blocked, or suspended.
  • The app must not have changes in review.
Note: This self-service deletion feature does not include monetized apps (for example, paid apps, apps with in-app purchases, or subscriptions) unless the apps have zero lifetime installs. If you want to permanently remove monetized apps with installs from your Google Play Console account, contact support

How to delete an app

  1. Open Play Console.
  2. Navigate to Advanced settings (Test & release > Advanced settings
Navigate to App settings > Advanced settings in your Play Console.
  3. If your app meets the deletion requirements, you see a  'Delete app' section on the App availability tab.
  4. Click Delete app.
  5. Enter the app's package name and your developer account creation transaction ID to confirm deletion.

What happens when you delete an app

After you delete an app through the UI, the following occurs:

  • Your app will be removed from Google Play and you lose access to all user data and metrics.
  • You can recover a deleted app within seven days of deleting it. After the deadline, your app is permanently deleted.
  • A deleted app cannot be transferred.
  • Navigation within Play Console for that specific app will be restricted, and options to publish changes are hidden.

What happens to the package name

  • For a deleted app with zero lifetime installs, the package name will be freed up for reuse by anyone.
  • For a deleted app with any lifetime installs, the package name can't be reused by any other app, including apps created by the developer account that created the deleted app.

What is a transaction ID?

You'll need the registration transaction ID for your account. To find the transaction ID, search the account owner's email inbox for "Developer registration fee."

If you can’t find the transaction ID email receipt, do the following:

  1. Sign in to Google Payments using the target account owner's email address.
  2. Click the Activity Log tab.
  3. Find and select the transaction for your developer account registration. To find it easily, search your transactions for "Google Play Developer."
  4. Your transaction ID is listed in the transaction details.

Registration transactions IDs are typically in one of the following formats:

01234567890123456789.token.0123456789012345

0.G.123456789012345

Registration-1234ab56-7c89-12d3-4567-8e91234567f8

PDS.1234-5678-9012-3456

Important: When you provide your transaction ID during the app deletion process, remove the first part of the Order ID. For example, discard "0.G." or the digits before the words "token" or "Registration".
