Updating developer identity details managed by a Google payments profile

The Google Play Console uses a Google payments profile to verify the legal name and address of all developer accounts. This profile is configured when creating a developer account and is critical for the developer verification process.

Over time, you may want to update these details, for example, if your address changes or your name is updated. These edits can be made by updating your existing payments profile. However, some details, such as the country, account type (organisation or individual) and D-U-N-S number (for organisation accounts), cannot be updated on an existing payments profile. To make these changes, you will need to create a new payments profile, provide the required information, verify your details and then link the verified profile to your developer account. Both of these processes are available to account owners in the Play Console under Developer account > Account details > About you.

Developers who monetise will have also set up a payment profile as part of creating their merchant account. This should not be confused with the payment profile used for identity verification purposes. Some developers who monetise will have used the same payment profile for both identity verification and their merchant account, whereas others chose to use different ones. The help guidance on this page is about updating your identity details, which might not be the same as your merchant details.

Updating your name or address in Play Console (Same country)

To change your name or address, you can update the existing payment profile linked to your developer account. Only the account owner can trigger this flow from the Play Console.

  1. Go to the Play Console account.
  2. Navigate to Developer account > Account details > About you.
  3. Click Update details/Update organisation details.
  4. Select Go to Google payments centre.
  5. Find the field you want to edit (for example, name or address).
  6. Enter the new information.
  7. Click Save.

You might need to upload identity documents to complete the update.

Update your country or DUNS number

To update your country or DUNS number, the account owner needs to configure, verify and then link a new payment profile within the Play Console.

  1. Go to the Play Console account.
  2. Navigate to Developer account > Account details > About you.
  3. Click Update details (or Update organisation details for organisation accounts).
  4. Click Create or Select payments profile.
  5. If you already have a payment profile with your updated details, select it and click Continue. Alternatively, to create a new one, click Create new payments profile.
    • Organisation accounts: You'll be required to enter your organisation's D-U-N-S number when creating the payments profile.
    • Government organisations/agencies: Verification without a D-U-N-S number may be available. If this option isn't present and you wish to verify without providing a D-U-N-S number, please contact support.
  6. Verify your identity (if required): After saving your payments profile, you might need to verify your legal name and address. More details about the process can be found here.
    • The Account details page will show the verification progress and any necessary actions. This is where you'll upload any requested documents.
    • You'll receive the review outcome via email after submitting documents.
    • Once the payment profile is verified, the account owner must link it to the developer account.
  7. Navigate to Developer account > Account details > About you and click Link your payments profile to your developer account.
  8. Click Confirm and save to update your developer account with the new payment profile.

Converting a personal developer account to an organisation account

To convert your individual developer account to an organisation account, the account owner must set up an organisational payment profile and provide extra account details in the Play Console.

  1. Go to your Play Console account.
  2. Navigate to Developer account > Account details > About you.
    • Before changing your account type, you need to provide and verify your official organisation website. For more information on verification, see Verifying your website. After entering and saving your website, remember to click Send verification request.
    • Once your website is verified, the option to update your account type will become available.
  3. Click Change account type.
  4. Click Create or Select payments profile.
  5. If you already have an existing payment profile with your organisation’s information, select it and click Continue. Otherwise, click Create new payments profile.
    • D-U-N-S number: When creating a new payments profile, your organisation's D-U-N-S number will be required.
    • Government organisations/agencies: Verification without a D-U-N-S number might be possible. If this option isn't available and you need to verify without a D-U-N-S number, please contact support.
  6. Next, you will need to provide the following organisation details:
    • Organisation type:
      • Company/business
      • Non-profit
      • Academic institution
      • Government
    • Organisation size:

      • Over 1,000 employees
    • Organisation phone number
    • Contact details:
      • Used by Google to contact you: A contact email address and contact phone number (each will be verified with a one-time password).
      • Displayed on Google Play for users to contact you: A developer email address and phone number that will appear on your app's store listing pages (each will be verified with a one-time password).
  7. Verify your identity (if necessary): After saving your payments profile, you may be required to verify your organisation's legal name and address. More information about this process can be found here.
    • The Account details page will display the verification status and any actions you need to take, including uploading requested documents.
    • You will receive the review outcome via email after submitting your documents.
    • Once the payment profile is verified, the account owner can finalise the switch.
  8. Go to Developer account > Account details > About you and click Link your payments profile to your developer account.
  9. To complete the transition of your developer account to an organisation account, click Confirm and Save.

It is not possible to change the account type from organisation to individual at this time. If you wish to have an individual developer account, you will need to create a new developer account. After verifying the new account, you can transfer your app(s) to it.
