Enrol your app in alternative billing

These settings are only applicable after you have migrated using the alternative billing APIs. If you are not ready to integrate with the alternative billing APIs, continue to make changes to your enrolment status through the enrolment form instead of through Play Console.

As our alternative billing options continue to expand and evolve, we've begun offering developers several programmes to enable an alternative billing system for users. As part of the onboarding process, you must enrol your app via Play Console. This involves identifying the apps, eligible countries/regions in which you will be offering alternative billing and the type of programme that you want to use.

Overview

You can manage which apps are enrolled and opted in to use alternative billing options and select from available programmes per app per eligible market on the Alternative billing page (Setup > Alternative billing) in Play Console.

Enrol your app

To enrol your app, you must first complete the required alternative billing onboarding steps as outlined within each corresponding programme.

Before you start:

  • Carefully read this article to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of our user choice billing programmes.
  • Before selling subscriptions through alternative billing options, ensure that your contact details are up to date for each app.
  • Some reporting metrics are only available for Google Play's billing system transactions. We may be unable to provide certain features and metrics using data from alternative billing options.

To enrol your app:

  1. Open Play Console and go to the Alternative billing page (Setup > Alternative billing).
  2. Find the app that you want to enrol and click Manage in the table. This opens the Monetisation setup page for that app.
  3. Scroll down to the 'Alternative billing' section and click Add alternative billing option.
  4. Select a billing option:
    • User choice billing: Select this option to offer users an alternative billing option alongside Google Play's billing system.
    • Alternative billing only: Select this option to offer a stand-alone alternative billing system without also offering Google Play’s billing system.
  5. Click + Country/region to select the eligible countries/regions in which you want to apply this billing option.
  6. When you've finished selecting countries/regions, click Apply.
  7. Next to 'Subscription management URL', enter a subscription management link, which may be provided to users on request. Your subscription management link is where users will manage their subscription life cycle if, for example, they want to change their subscription settings. If you are not planning to sell subscriptions, enter 'N/A'.
    • Important: If you have different subscription management links per country/region, you must enrol your app to the option separately for each country.
  8. User choice billing only: In the 'Payment methods banner' section, provide a banner of logos representing the payment methods supported by the alternative billing option. If you already have a banner, either click to upload or drop your file. If you don't have one, you can click Download payment methods banner template.
  9. User choice billing only: Select the 'Additional payment methods' tick box if you want to show an 'and more' label after the banner image. This indicates that more than five payment methods are supported in addition to those in the banner.
  10. Click Apply.
