Use Smart Replies on Google Pixel Watch

Respond more personally and accurately to messages with one tap on your Pixel Watch 3 and 4, using Gemini and on-device AI to generate expressive replies from notifications.

Important:

  • This feature is only available for Google Pixel Watch 4 with a compatible Google Pixel 9 or later.
  • When connected to your phone through Bluetooth, your Pixel Watch uses your phone's Gemini model to generate replies. When your watch is disconnected from Bluetooth, it uses the watch's on-device AI model.
  • Smart Replies are now improved using a new Gemma-based model built right into your watch. This update will also be available to Google Pixel Watch 3.
  • This model allows Smart Replies to be generated even when your watch is disconnected from your phone, making it faster and more memory-efficient.

Turn Smart Replies on or off

Smart Replies are turned on by default but can be turned off in the settings.

  1. Open the Google Pixel Watch app Google Pixel Watch.
  2. Tap Notifications .
  3. Choose how you want your replies to be generated:
    • AI generated: Get a list of AI-suggested replies.
    • Basic: Get pre-written replies such as 'yes' or 'no'.
    • None: Turn off Smart Replies.

What is open-source AI?

Open-source AI means that the components and instructions to create artificial intelligence are freely available for anyone to use, study, modify and share. Generally, people can:

  • Use the system for any purpose and without the need to ask for permission.
  • Study how the system works and inspect its components.
  • Modify the system for any purpose, including to change its output.
  • Share the system for others to use with or without modifications, for any purpose.

What happens to your data

Google doesn't take, store or process your data. All Smart Replies are processed entirely on your Pixel phone or Pixel Watch. This means that the AI doesn't learn from your responses or improve responses as you continue to use it. Learn more about what data is collected and how it's used.
