Get emergency help through Satellite SOS with Google Pixel Watch 4

Get help from emergency services through satellite, even when you're off the grid.

Satellite SOS compatibility

  • This feature is available in the US except Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
  • This feature is available only on Pixel Watch 4 LTE.

How Satellite SOS works

If you're in an emergency situation without Wi-Fi or mobile network, you can try to connect with emergency services through satellite. During the emergency, you need to answer a few quick questions to get the help you need. An Emergency Support Provider (ESP) will then interface between you and e911 services.

Connect to Satellite SOS

  1. Find an open outdoor space with a clear sky above.
  2. Rotate your body and align the arrow to start connecting.
  3. Incline your arm until the satellite centres in the circle. Once the satellite is in the centre, the watch will show 'Connecting' at the centre. Hold still until the watch establishes connection.

Access Satellite SOS

Important: You won't be able to access other parts of the watch when you're in a satellite messaging session.

This feature will be activated once all the necessary software and connections are updated and the service is registered with the satellite network, which can take several hours.

To contact emergency services when you don't have network coverage on your Pixel watch:

  1. Dial the emergency services line in your area, like 911 in the US.
    • If you don't have a mobile or Wi-Fi network, you'll find an option to use Satellite SOS in the Dialler.
  2. Tap Satellite SOS android satellite and then Use Satellite SOS and then Start.
  3. To describe your emergency, fill in the emergency questionnaire.
  4. To share your emergency with your emergency contacts, answer the on-screen questions.
    • To notify your emergency contacts, tap Notify.
    • If you don't want your emergency contacts to receive your location and emergency information, tap Don't notify.
      • Tip: This is only available once you've set up your emergency contacts.
  5. To connect to the satellite, follow the on-screen prompts to correctly position your watch.
    • Connection and response times vary based on location, site conditions and other factors.
  6. Once you're connected, the emergency service provider should reply via text within a few minutes.
    • To receive replies, stay outside with a clear sky above.
    • When you would like to end the satellite text conversation, press End and follow the prompts.
  7. After you end your Satellite SOS session, you need to redial 911 to start another session.

Calibrate your watch

Low compass accuracy can affect navigation-related apps and services. During the emergency, your watch will prompt you to calibrate it when its compass accuracy is low. To calibrate the watch, try to tilt and move the watch in a loop. Understand and manage your watch's location settings.

Tip:

  • Move your arm slowly and gently to completely calibrate the compass accuracy.
  • If stuck and unable to move away from this screen, scroll down and tap Dismiss.

Tip: Your watch displays its compass accuracy as you tilt and move it.

Access Satellite SOS demo

  1. On your watch, swipe down and tap Settings .
  2. Tap Safety and emergency.
  3. Follow the demo instructions.

Tip: Your mobile network will be disabled temporarily and will automatically turn on when you exit the demo experience.
