Share Pixel usage & diagnostics info with Google

To help us improve Pixel and the overall Android ecosystem, you can let your Pixel device send us info about how you use it. The Pixel device info sent to Google helps us improve our products and services for users.

This info may be stored with your account if you have turned on other Web & App Activity. You can find and delete it in My Activity. We use this info to personalize your Google services and to improve our products and services for everyone.

Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

What info is shared with Google

If you turn on Usage & diagnostics, your Pixel device sends info to Google associated with your device's unique identifier such as serial number about how your device is working. For example, your device can send info like:

  • Battery and thermal performance
  • Sensor performance
  • Component related performance (such as speakers, camera, display, storage, and others)
  • Software stability
  • How often you use your apps
  • Quality and length of your network connections (like mobile, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth)

Turn usage & diagnostics on or off

Important: If you turn off usage and diagnostics, your device can still get essential services, like a new version of Android. Turning off usage and diagnostics won’t affect info that apps might collect.

To choose whether to send usage and diagnostics info to Google:

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Settings and then Security & Privacy and then More privacy settings and then Usage & diagnostics.
  3. Turn Usage & diagnostics on or off.

Tip: If you use a shared device, other user profiles may change this setting.

How Google uses this info

Google uses usage and diagnostics info to improve products and services, like Google apps, Pixel, and the ecosystem of Android devices. All info is used in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy.

For example, Google can use usage and diagnostics info to improve:

  • Battery life: Google can use info about what uses the most battery on your device to help make common features use less battery and to improve how batteries age.
  • Crashes or freezes on devices: Google can use info about when apps crash and freeze on your device to help make the Android OS more reliable.
  • Device Longevity: Google may use the data provided to help devices last longer and to provide long-term software support.

Some aggregated info can help partners, like Android developers, make their apps and products better, too.
