Make and receive phone calls and SMS texts on Pixel Watch

You can make calls and send text messages from your Google Pixel Watch¹. During setup, you can approve access to your phone's contact list by managing the linked Google Account on file.

If you can't make calls or receive SMS/MMS messages, go to Fix phone call and text message issues on Pixel Watch.

Requirements

• Mobile service for your phone.

• For Google Pixel Watch LTE:

  • Mobile service for your watch.

  • Tip: The Google Pixel Watch LTE doesn't require you to have a new number, but you need to set up a separate line. Your watch will have the same number as your phone once you've paired them and activated 4G LTE with a compatible operator.

• For Google Pixel Watch Wi-Fi:

  • Connected to a Wi-Fi network.

  • Your phone is physically close: You cannot make or receive calls or send and receive texts unless your phone is nearby.

On the Google Pixel Watch LTE: verify that you have a mobile watch

1. On the Google Pixel Watch, swipe down  tap Settings .
2. Tap Connectivity  Mobile.

If you don't see a mobile setting, your watch does not have mobile service. You must have a Google Pixel Watch LTE in order to get mobile service on your watch. You must use the same operator for both your watch and phone service.

On the Google Pixel Watch Wi-Fi: verify that you are connected to Bluetooth

1. On the Google Pixel Watch, swipe down  tap Settings .
2. Tap Connectivity  Bluetooth  turn on Bluetooth.
3. Make sure that your nearby phone is connected to Bluetooth as well.

Phone calls

Make and receive calls with Google Pixel Watch using the built-in microphone and speaker or Bluetooth-connected headphones.

Note: A nearby phone is not required to make or receive a call with Google Pixel Watch 4G LTE.

1. On Google Pixel Watch, press the side button next to the crown.

2. Scroll down tap Contacts.

3. Select or search for a contact name.

4. Tap the chosen contact name.

5. To place a call, tap the phone next to their number .

Missed calls

If you have missed calls that you haven't gotten notifications for, make sure that you're not muting call notifications.

1. On Google Pixel Watch, swipe down from the top of the screen.

2. Make sure that the modes that pause notifications are turned off.

Can't make outgoing calls

1. Confirm that all steps were fully completed during setup.

2. Check your connection to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi or LTE.

Text and SMS messages

With the Android messaging app set as the default messaging client on your phone, you can send and receive text and SMS messages on Google Pixel Watch.

Note: The Google Pixel Watch syncs texts with your phone so your connected phone must be online.

Type and send a text or SMS message

Answer a message or tap a contact's name from your watch.

1. On Google Pixel Watch, press the crown.

2. Scroll down tap Contacts.

3. Select or search for a contact name.

4. Tap the chosen contact name.

5. To draft a message, tap the message box next to their number .

Use Smart Reply (English only) to quickly respond to messages by tapping on a suggested response.

Note: Smart Reply responses are available for text and SMS messages only. Smart Reply is not currently available when responding to email messages.

If you have trouble sending or receiving messages, make sure that your phone and watch meet the requirements.

Use Google Assistant to call or text

Calls: Ask Google Assistant to make and answer a call or tap a contact's name from your watch.

Texts: Ask Google Assistant to send a text or read and reply with swipe actions.
