Security and privacy settings on your Pixel Tablet

Learn about how to check and adjust your security and privacy settings on your Pixel Tablet. Access the privacy dashboard, change your privacy settings, scan your device for issues, update your device, turn on security features and more.

Settings include:

  • How apps access your data
  • Access to your camera or microphone
  • How passwords are displayed
  • Check or clear your location history
  • Adjust lock screen notifications and media

Check your security and privacy settings

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Security and privacy.
  3. Tap the setting that you want to check or change.

Tip: If your tablet has a work profile, you might need to specify which profile you want to scan with before you choose a security option.

Security and privacy features

Choose one of the following options:

Scan device

Scan your tablet for issues related to security or privacy.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  1. Tap Security and privacy and then Scan device.

App security

Scan the apps on your tablet for security issues.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Press Security and privacy and then App security.
  3. Press Google Play Protect.
    • If you have a work account, press Google Play Protect for work.
  4. When a new window opens, press Scan.

Device unlock

Set up a new PIN, pattern, password or fingerprint.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Security and privacy and then Device unlock and then tap an option:
    1. Screen lock: Set up a PIN or password, or change your current one.
    2. Fingerprint Unlock: Set up a new fingerprint, change your current one or add a new one.

Account security

Perform a security check-up for your Google Account.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Press Security and privacy and then Account security.
  3. Press Google Security Check-Up.
    • If you have a work account, press Google Security Check-Up for work.
  4. Review any recommended actions.

Device finders

Turn on the ability to find your Android device if you lose it.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Press Security and privacy and then Device finders and then Find My Device and then turn on Use Find My Device.

System and updates

Check for and install Pixel Tablet updates. If no updates are required, you'll get a prompt saying that your system or device is up to date. If an update is required, you'll be prompted to restart your tablet.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Press Security and privacy and then System and updates and then choose an option.
    • Security update: Check for and install any security updates.
    • Google Play system update: Check for and install updates for Google Play.
    • Backup: Back up your device and manage storage.

Privacy

Adjust your privacy controls to change app permissions or change how apps can access your data:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Press Security and privacy and then Privacy and then tap an option:
    • Permission manager: Control how apps on your tablet can access your data.
    • Privacy dashboard: Show which apps on your tablet used permissions recently.
    • Ads: Manage device data used to show you ads.
    • Health Connect: Manage app access to health data.
    • Controls: Control device access to your microphone, camera and more.

More security and privacy settings

To check or change additional security and privacy settings:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Security and privacy.
  3. Under 'Other settings', tap More security and privacy.

Your work policy info

If your tablet is managed by an IT administrator, tap this to check the work policies and data that they can access.

More security and privacy

Press a privacy or security setting to continue. Settings include:

  • Notifications on lock screen: Show or hide notifications on your lock screen and choose how much information appears.
  • Show media on lock screen: Choose if the media player stays open on your lock screen to quickly resume playback.
  • Personalise using app data: Allow apps to send content to the Android system.
  • Android System Intelligence: Get suggestions based on the people, apps and content you interact with.
  • Autofill service from Google: Choose whether your personal information, like addresses, payment methods or passwords, is saved to your account.
  • Usage & diagnostics: Choose if you want to send usage and diagnostic information to Google.
  • Extend Unlock: Keep your tablet unlocked when it's with you, at specific places you trust or near your other connected devices.
  • App pinning: Lets you pin an app to your Home screen until you unpin it.
