Set up your Pixel Tablet

This article will walk you through how to set up your Google Pixel Tablet for the first time, or after a factory reset. You can copy what's on your current device to your Pixel Tablet, or set up your Pixel Tablet as a new device.

Note: Some features are not available in all countries or languages.

How to set up your Pixel Tablet and Charging Speaker Dock

Step 1: Get started

1. Press and hold the power button on the edge of your tablet, close to the rear camera.
2. When the welcome screen appears, tap Get started.

You can set up your tablet with or without attaching it to the Charging Speaker Dock. If you attach it to the dock during setup, your tablet will ask you to set up Hub Mode immediately after completing the below steps. If you don't, you'll be prompted to set up Hub Mode the first time you attach the tablet to the dock.

Step 2: Connect to Wi-Fi

1. Tap the wireless network you want to connect to.
   • To skip this step, tap Set up offline.
2. Enter the password for your Wi-Fi network, if it has one.

Step 3 (optional): Copy apps and data

1. When you're prompted to copy your apps and data from another device, tap Next.
   • To skip this step, tap Don't copy.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions to copy data from a different device.
   • If you have your old device, tap Next and follow the onscreen instructions.
   • If you don't have your old device, tap Can't use old device? OK.

Step 4: Sign in with your Google Account

For the best Pixel Tablet experience, follow the on-screen instructions to sign in with your Google Account and password. You need a Google Account if you want to get apps from the Google Play Store and access email, contacts, calendar, and other personalized apps and features.

If your account is managed by a school or employer, follow the on-screen instructions to proceed. If your account has 2-Step Verification set up, verify your account before you sign in.

Step 5: Google services and legal terms

1. Scroll down, then choose the services you want to use. You can choose whether or not your tablet:
   • Uses your location
   • Scans for Wi-Fi networks and devices
   • Sends usage & diagnostic information to Google
2. At the bottom, tap Accept.
3. Read the additional legal terms tap I accept.

Step 6 (optional): Set a PIN or password

You can set up a 4-digit PIN or password you can use to unlock your tablet.

1. Follow the onscreen instructions. When you're done, tap Next.
2. If you don't want to set up a PIN or password, tap Skip.

Tip: You can set up a PIN or password later if you skip this step.

Step 7 (optional): Set up Fingerprint Unlock

1. To set up a fingerprint, tap I agree.
   • To skip this step, tap No thanks.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up a fingerprint.
3. To add another fingerprint, tap Add another.
4. When you're done, tap Next.

Tip: You can set up a fingerprint later if you skip this step.

Step 8 (optional): Set up Google Assistant

When you set up Assistant, you can use phrases like "Hey Google" to play music and videos, set timers, control smart home devices, and more. To skip Assistant setup, tap Skip.

1. Choose Assistant features to use when your tablet is locked tap I agree.
2. Teach Assistant how to recognize your voice tap I agree and follow the onscreen instructions.
3. Activate Voice Match so Assistant recognizes your voice when you say "Hey Google" tap I agree.

Step 9 (optional): Get email updates

1. To get updates about Google's hardware products, tap Yes, I'm in.
2. Otherwise, tap No thanks.

Step 10 (optional): Learn how to navigate your tablet

You can find and manage apps, access your device’s settings, and quickly return to the Home screen with navigation gestures.

• To try some gestures, tap Try it.
• To skip this step, tap Skip.

Tip: If you skip this step, you can try tablet gestures at any time in your device's Settings app .

Step 11: Transfer data and install apps

1. To transfer data and install apps, tap Start follow the onscreen instructions.
2. To finish setup another time, tap Remind me later.

You're ready to start using your Google Pixel Tablet. To go to your Home screen, swipe your finger up from the bottom of the screen.

Step 12: Set up Hub Mode

When you finish setting up your tablet, you'll get a prompt to set up Hub Mode. Hub Mode gives easy access to Google Assistant, weather, notifications, and more to anyone in your home when you attach your tablet to the Charging Speaker Dock.
