Does anyone use a fitbit Versa 3 with your Pixel Buds? 0 Recommended Answers 7 Replies 0 Upvotes

I'm contemplating purchasing a fitbit Versa 3 to stream music directly to my Pixel Buds, and would like to hear from any other fitbit Versa (versions 1-3) owners that have used their Pixel Buds for music playback without their phone.

It would be nice to not have to carry my phone around during a workout.

Hi James McGarry,

Thanks for dropping by and apologies for the delayed response. Your idea to use your Google Pixel Buds to a fitness tracker device without carrying your phone is an interesting feature that we may look forward to in the future. As of the moment, your Google Pixel Buds will not work without your phone and must stay connected to a device up to 100 yards away outdoors, and up to three rooms away indoors to keep the connection as well to any smartwatch or fitness tracker devices.

Your feedback is highly appreciated and we are always finding ways to make our product and services even better. You might want to send feedback to the team to let them know this is something you'd like to see added in the future: Send Feedback for Pixel Buds - Google Pixel Buds Help

Roel,

Thanks for your reply.
Just as the Pixel Buds can be paired with a wide variety of devices (PCs, iOS devices, random Android devices) why wouldn't they pair with a fitbit device that is designed to stream Bluetooth music to wireless earbuds/headphones?  Is there a unique limiting feature that makes the Pixel Buds unable to act as a generic Bluetooth music streaming audio device?

Hi James McGarry,

Thank you for getting back to this thread. To use your Google Pixel Buds as a headset the requirements are:
  • Any Bluetooth® 4.0 (or higher) device including Android, iOS, tablets, and laptops.
  • Full access to features requires Google Account, Assistant-enabled companion phone that runs Android 6.0+, and an Internet connection.
Fitness tracker devices are not a standalone device and don't have the feature yet to operate independently.

Roel,

To clarify: my current fitbit device, Charge 3, is a fitness tracker, and has no ability to interact with any headset.  The fitbit Versa 3 on the other hand is an actual smartwatch, with more complex functionality, much like an Apple watch.  Do you know if that makes a difference?  The Versa 3 is scheduled very soon to get Google Assistant added via an upcoming firmware update and currently already has Alexa functionality.  I know that it won't be the full-featured Google Assistant that my Pixel 4 has baked into it, and I wouldn't expect the same advanced integration with my Pixel Buds that my Pixel 4 provides, but I bring this up only to illustrate the advanced smartwatch nature of the Versa 3.  Would this change anything?

Hi James,

I don't have a Fitbit Versa but can confirm that the Buds work fine as a standard Bluetooth headset with my Misfit Vapor X Wear OS smartwatch. I don't see any reason that they wouldn't work with another smartwatch as long as the watch can function as a Bluetooth host device and provide some sort of interface for pairing accessories like headphones.

Hope that helps,
John

Thanks John.
That's what I was thinking, that the Pixel Buds would function as 'dumb' wireless earbuds, and just wouldn't have the advanced functionality that's dependant on the host device supporting those features.
I'm guessing that simple, basic playback functions (play, pause, stop, fast forward, etc..) as controlled by the Versa 3 as the host device would be available.

I know the basic play/pause single-tap should work, but the double- and triple-taps have been somewhat less reliable for me on non-Android devices.
