New colors and new features for Pixel Buds
0
[Edit] A point of clarification: in order to access these new features, you'll need the latest firmware update 550 on your Pixel Buds and the latest version of the Pixel Buds app, which is also rolling out in phases over the next few days. You can check for the app update in the Play Store.

Hey everyone,

More colors are finally here! Starting today, you can purchase Pixel Buds in Oh So Orange, Quite Mint and Almost Black in the US. (You can check out the Google Store to learn more about color availability in your market.)

We’re also rolling out an update, firmware version 550, over the next few days that includes some exciting new features for your Pixel Buds:
  • Bass boost: toggle bass boost on in Pixel Buds settings to get more bass out of your Pixel Buds.
  • Sharing detection: turn on sharing detection in Pixel Buds settings and your Pixel Buds will automatically detect when you share one of your earbuds with another person and allow you to individually swipe to control your own volume.
  • Find My Device: in addition to being able to ring your Pixel Buds if they’re connected to your Android phone, you can now see their last known location on a map when they’re no longer connected. There is no active GPS tracking, but this can help you know where to get started if you’ve misplaced them.
  • Translate transcribe mode: adding to the already available conversation mode which helps when you’re talking back and forth with another person, the new transcribe mode reads translated speech directly in your ear, helping you understand the gist of what’s being said during longer listening experiences. Transcribe mode is launching initially for French, German, Italian and Spanish speakers to translate English speech.
  • Attention Alerts: an experimental feature that notifies you of important things happening around you—your dog barking, baby crying or an emergency vehicle driving by with sirens ringing—and lowers the volume of your content momentarily to alert you to what’s going on.
  • More: Toggle to turn off/on touch controls and some useful Assistant commands
Your Pixel Buds will automatically update when connected to an Android 6.0+ device. Check out our Keyword blog to learn more: https://blog.google/products/pixel-buds/bass-boost-sharing-detection-new-pixelbuds-features

We’re also including some updates to help improve a few connectivity issues that some users have seen and reported here in the community:
  • Improved connection stability during calls
  • Better autorecovery when one or both earbuds lose connection
  • Improved media playback stability for phones that have software audio encoding
  • Fixed issue where one earbud fails to connect when removed from the case

Thanks for updating us. I returned the Pixel Buds I bought over a month ago because of the connection issues and the hiss, do you know if Google has done anything to mitigate these issues? I want to buy the 'almost black' version, but not if they have not actually been fixed. Thanks for any insights.

I just updated them to version 550 and now I have the option to disable the touch controls with the assistant which is pretty cool. But the app looks the same and there are no updates available. So I don't have any of the new sound setting.

I have the firmware update, but unfortunately, see none of the new features available.

Edit: I needed to update the app as well as the firmware. APK for the updated buds app available on apkmirror.
