I have USB-C Pixel Buds that I use with my Pixel 1. Audio comes through the Pixel Buds just fine. When I receive or make a call, I start talking and the other person can't hear me. I can hear them, however. This started happening after 2-3 months of normal near-daily usage. 

As far as I know, the issue did not start immediately following an update to the Pixel, but it's possible that it did correlate with an update.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Can you tell if this is only an issue while on calls? Does the inline microphone work with Assistant or other apps?

Thanks for your response, John. The microphone does not seem to be working with voice assistant or otherwise. I did not previously realize this -- now it seems obvious why nobody can hear me!

When I press the button and speak, Google Assistant always says "Sorry, I didn't get that." Using voice to type does not work. I tried recording a voice memo and that does not work either.

Is there any way I can determine whether this is a hardware or software issue?

Hey Miles,

The only other thing that might be worth testing would be to reboot your phone into Safe Mode and see if the behavior continues. This would help to rule out potential interference from a misbehaving third-party application.

If that doesn't help then it's probably a hardware issue. In case case, you might want to reach out to Google Pixel Support to see if they can help arrange for a replacement.

I am having the same issue with my Pixel 3. Just hard rebooted phone - no resolution. Can hear audio just fine. Can hear and speak when using dongle, but no mic action with provided Pixel earbuds.

I'm also having this problem. I assume this is a new bug introduced after the recent fw update. I don't use the call function everyday so I can't say when it stopped working. 

Did the previous users find a resolution?

I find that when I get a phone call I will click the answer button on my phone and it will stop the Bluetooth connection between the phone and the earbuds. This is an issue that has just started recently. After talking (on speaker) for a little bit the earbuds will reconnect and I can continue the conversation through the earbuds.

My mic works in safe mode, so I was wondering how you know what 3rd party app is causing the mic not to work?
