Note: This feature isn't available on Pixel Buds A-Series.
When you share one of your earbuds with another person, each of you can control the volume individually.
Note: Sharing detection works during media playback and calls. However, during a call or an Assistant query, only one earbud's microphone will be active. Notifications and alerts will play on both earbuds.
Turn on sharing detection
- On a Pixel phone with Android 10+: Go to Settings
Bluetooth and tap the Settings icon by your paired Pixel Buds name.
On other Android devices: Open the Google Pixel Buds app.
- Tap In-ear detection.
- Tap the toggle button to enable sharing detection.
Share your Pixel Buds
- With sharing detection enabled, give one of your earbuds to the person with whom you’re sharing.
- After 5–10 seconds, each person will hear a chime letting you know that sharing has been detected.
- Tip: If you do not hear a chime:
- Remove the earbud from your ear, wait a few seconds, and then put it back in.
- Have one person be still while the other turns their head left and right.
- Tip: If you do not hear a chime:
- Once sharing has been detected, each earbud’s volume can be controlled individually using swipe gestures. Learn more.
- If either earbud is removed, Pixel Buds will detect that you are no longer sharing your earbuds. The earbuds will re-sync their volume without you needing to toggle off sharing detection.
Note: If you’re using a single earbud on your own, tap to resume listening.
