To use as a headset, you need a Bluetooth® enabled companion device running:
- Android 5.0 or higher

Step 1: Unpack your Pixel Buds
- Remove the protective film between the earbuds and the case before charging.
Step 2: Charge your Pixel Buds
Important: Charge safely. Before charging, make sure you read and follow the safety information about charging Google Pixel Buds. You can check the "Be Safe" guide included with your Google Pixel Buds or go to Safety and Regulatory Information for Pixel Buds.
- Charge the Pixel Buds inside the case with the lid closed for 10 minutes.
- A pulsing orange LED will appear to indicate that your device battery is low and not ready to pair.
- Wait for a few minutes until you have a single white LED pulsing.
Step 3: Turn on Bluetooth on your Pixel Buds
- On your mobile device's home screen, tap Settings

Step 4: Pair the Pixel Buds to your mobile device
- Open the charging case next to your phone with the Pixel Buds still inside.
- If your Pixel Buds are outside of the case, put them back in, matching the Left (L) and Right (R) indicator of the Pixel Buds to the charging pods.
- Once they're in, press down to make sure the charging pins have good contact.
- A green LED light will appear to indicate that the Pixel Buds are charging.
- A single white LED pulsing will appear to indicate that the Pixel Buds are ready to pair.
- Look for a pop-up notification on your phone that will take you through the rest of the setup. Tip: You can also prompt the pop-up notification to appear by opening your assistant.
The Pixel Buds Gen 1 (2017) are designed to sound great and fit comfortably in your ears. To properly adjust the Pixel Buds:
- Pull the cord to adjust the loop size for each bud.
- Tuck the loops into your ear for the Pixel Buds to fit comfortably.

- The Gemini on Google Pixel Buds is only available on Android and requires an assistant-enabled Android device and data connection. Data rates may apply.

Your Pixel Buds allow you to control your media, manage your calls, use your digital assistant, or translate spoken languages using gestures. The available gestures using the right earbud are:

To change the settings of your Pixel Buds:
- Connect your Pixel Buds to your phone.
- Press and hold the center button on your phone to activate your voice assistant.
- Tap Headphones settings.
Available settings for Pixel Buds Gen 1 (2017)
- Tutorials: If you need a refresher on what you can do with your Pixel Buds, you can use any available tutorials.
- Double Tap Gesture Customization: You can choose between Check notifications or Next track as your desired action for the double tap gesture.
- Battery Level: This setting shows you how much power remains in your Pixel Buds.
- Status: This setting shows you the current connection status of your Pixel Buds to your phone.
- Firmware Version: This setting shows you information on your Pixel Buds’ current firmware version.
- Serial Number: This setting shows you the serial number for both Pixel Buds and its charging case.
- Tip: The 10-character alphanumeric serial number can also be found on your left earbud. It’s the same serial number shown on the packaging with the sticker under the bar code or safety icons.
Step 1: Make sure your Pixel Buds are clean, the charging case has power, and you have the charging cord
Tip: Your Pixel Buds come with a USB-A to USB-C cable.
- Clean the charging contacts: Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe the magnetic charging contacts on both your Pixel Buds and inside the charging case. Learn how to clean your Pixel Buds.
- Charge the case: Make sure your charging case is fully charged. You can check the case's status light if it's charging properly. Learn how to charge the charging case.
- Check the charging cord: Ensure your charging cable is undamaged and free of any obstructions.
- For wireless charging: Try to reposition the case on the charging surface.
Step 2: Put your Pixel Buds back in the charging case
- Check the eartips: Make sure the eartips are securely attached to your earbuds.
- Place the earbuds in the case: Put each Pixel Bud back into its charging case.
- Check on the status light: The status light on the case should blink when each earbud is correctly placed. If a light doesn't appear, gently adjust the earbud until the light comes on.
Tip: You can also try to close and open the lid. This helps to adjust your buds into the exact right sitting orientation.
Step 3: Charge your Pixel Buds for at least 30 minutes
- Plug in the case: While your earbuds are inside, connect the charging case to a power source.
- Charge for 30 minutes: Let your Pixel Buds charge for at least 30 minutes before trying to pair them again.
- Pair your earbuds: After charging, follow the steps to pair your Pixel Buds with your device. Learn how to pair your Pixel Buds.
- If your Pixel Buds still haven’t charged, reset both the buds and the charging case.
To quickly check the battery level of your Pixel Buds when they're inside the charging case, press the case button or open the lid of the charging case.
Place your Pixel Buds Gen 1 (2017) inside the charging case
Important: The charging case must be closed for your Pixel Buds to charge properly.
- Match the L and R indicators of the Pixel Buds to the charging case magnetized pockets.
- Once they're in, press down to make sure the charging pins are firmly in place.
- After placing your earbuds in their pockets, secure the cord by wrapping it around the rim of the charging case. This helps you carry your Pixel Buds while they're charging.
- A green LED light will appear to indicate that your Pixel Buds are charging.

- Ensure that the charging case has power by plugging it in using the included USB-C cable.
- Place the Pixel Buds in the charging case with the lid closed for 10 minutes.
- Remove the Pixel Buds from the charging case for at least 3 seconds.
- Replace the Pixel Buds back in the charging case.
- Match the L and R indicators of the Pixel Buds to the magnetic pockets in the charging case. Once the green LED
lights up, close the case.

If a setup notification didn’t pop up
- Remove the Pixel Buds from the charging case for more than three seconds, then put them back in the case.
- Close and reopen the case.
- Press and hold the case button for three seconds.
- If there's one white LED pulsing
, your device is ready to pair.

- On certain Android devices, you may need to find your Google Pixel Buds and add them as a new device.
The buds don’t respond inside the charging case
Before you attempt to reset your charging case, make sure that your Pixel Buds are unable to respond to any interactions with the charging case. To test this:
- Remove and replace the Pixel Buds inside the charging case.
- Gently press them into their slots to ensure that they are seated properly.
- Once seated, press the case button.
If working properly, pressing the case button should toggle between the charging case battery level, white LEDs and the Pixel Buds' charging status, a green LED
. This indicates that your buds are able to respond to the case and no further action is necessary.
If you're unable to toggle to a green LED after the steps above, begin the reset process.
- Remove the Pixel Buds from the charging case.
- Press and hold the charging case button for 40 seconds. Upon the initial button press, white LEDs
will appear.
- After 7 seconds, the LEDs will turn off. Continue to press the charging case button.
- At the end of the 40 seconds, the left-most LED will dimly flash amber
7 times.
After resetting your charging case, the Pixel Buds will respond while inside the case. This includes:
- Charging the Pixel Buds
- Checking the battery level of your Pixel Buds and charging case
- Pairing your Pixel Buds to your mobile device
Check that you can switch between LEDs
- Replace the Pixel Buds inside the case.
- Check that you can switch between the white LEDs
and a single green LED
when you press the charging case button.
Reconnect your Pixel Buds with your phone
- While the charging case shows a green LED
, hold the case button for 3 seconds.
- If there’s one white LED pulsing
, your device is ready to pair.
- Find a pop-up notification on your phone that'll take you through the rest of the setup.
- On certain Android devices, you may need to find your Google Pixel Buds in the Bluetooth settings menu and add them as a new device.
