Hearing Wellness

Note: Hearing Wellness is only available on Pixel Buds Pro.

Hearing Wellness gives you context about how often you are exposed to high volume levels. Use Volume level notifications to alert you when the recommended exposure limit is exceeded.

Review volume levels

Review your current volume level of your earbuds measured in decibels (dB) and your exposure levels over the last 24 hours and last 7 days. Exposure measures your listening volume over time. As you listen, your exposure accumulates towards a maximum recommended amount.

  1. On a Pixel phone with Android 10+: Go to Settings and then System and then Software updates and then App updates and then tap Settings  by your paired Pixel Buds name.
On other Android devices: Open the Google Pixel Buds app Pixel Buds.
  2. Tap Hearing Wellness.

Note: If you are hard of hearing and need to regularly listen at higher volumes, Hearing Wellness will still show you levels of someone who isn't considered hard of hearing.

Turn on Volume level notifications

Even moderately loud sounds like traffic or power tools can affect your ears over long periods. Volume level notifications help you decide how to adjust your usual noise exposure.

  1. On a Pixel phone with Android 10+: Go to Settings and then System and then Software updates and then App updates and then tap Settings  by your paired Pixel Buds name.
On other Android devices: Open the Google Pixel Buds app Pixel Buds.
  2. Tap Hearing Wellness and then turn on Volume level notifications.

What’s considered loud?

Listening to volumes above 80 dB for extended periods can eventually affect your hearing. Here are some examples of noise sources and their decibel levels:

  • Whisper - 30dB
  • Normal conversation - 60dB
  • Office - 70dB
  • City traffic - 80dB
  • Approaching train - 90dB
