Use Active Noise Control on Google Pixel Buds Pro

In the Pixel Buds app, you will find three modes to control noise under Active Noise Control (ANC).

  • Noise cancellation: Blocks outside noise. When you activate this, you will hear a single chime.
  • Transparency: Lets sound in so that you can hear the world around you. When you activate this, you will hear a double chime.
  • Off: Both active states are disabled. When you activate this, you will hear a single chime.
Note: Under ANC, noise cancellation mode will only work if you wear both Pixel Buds. However, if the Pixel Buds are not paired, the On/Off and Transparency modes can still be used.

Pixel Buds Pro only: Turn on Conversation Detection to automatically switch from noise cancellation mode to Transparency mode when talking and pause your media. Once you have finished talking, your media will resume.

You can change the current mode in different ways. Learn controls for Google Pixel Buds.

  • Gesture: Touch and hold your earbud to toggle between noise cancellation and Transparency mode. The touch and hold gesture is set to toggle between Noise Cancellation and Transparency by default on either earbud, but can be configured to activate Assistant instead.
  • Pixel Buds app: Select your ANC mode by going to the Sound menu and selecting a mode at the top.
  • Assistant: Ask Assistant to turn Active Noise Control on or off by saying, 'Hey Google, turn on noise cancellation', or 'Hey Google, turn off noise cancellation'.
