Customize EQ with Google Pixel Buds

Important: This feature is not available on Google Pixel Buds (2017).

You can use Custom Equalizer (EQ) in the sound menu to adjust 5 different frequency bands and save your preferred settings. You can also choose one of the presets, like "Heavy bass" as a starting point.

These settings don’t apply to phone call audio and stay the same across each source device, such as your phone, tablet, and others. Additionally, this feature only works with Pixel Buds A-Series, Pixel Buds Pro, and Pixel Buds Pro 2 and doesn't work with other headphones or speakers.

Customize your Equalizer

For Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and Pixel Buds 2a, you can find bass boost, Volume EQ, and other EQ customizations in your EQ settings.

On a Pixel phone with Android 10 or higher

1. Go to Settings Connected Devices.
2. Under "Saved devices," tap your paired Pixel Buds' Settings Device details Sound Equalizer.
   For quick access:
   1. Swipe down from the top of your screen for Quick Settings.
   2. Touch and hold the Bluetooth menu.
   3. Go to your paired Pixel Buds’ Settings .
   4. Tap Sound.
3. Choose an Equalizer preset from the dropdown menu. To customize individual frequencies:
   1. Choose a frequency from the list.
   2. Touch and hold, then slide to your preferred level.¹
   3. Tap Save.

On other Android devices

1. Open the Google Pixel Buds app .

2. Tap Device Sound Equalizer.
3. Choose an Equalizer preset from the dropdown menu. To customize individual frequencies:
   1. Choose a frequency from the list.
   2. Touch and hold, then slide to your preferred level.¹
   3. Tap Save.

Choose a Preset

You can choose one of these presets as a starting point to get audio that works for you.

• Default: Google-tuned to work best across all types of audio content
• Light bass: Reduces bass to highlight everything else
• Heavy bass: Boosts lower frequencies to put bass first
• Balanced: A more neutral sound that balances the instruments in all ranges
• Vocal boost: Makes vocals stand out
• Clarity: Boosts the highs for better understanding of the words in speech and more sparkle and brilliance in music
• Last saved: Restores your last saved equalizer setting

Save your Custom EQ settings

Once you find an equalizer setting you like, tap Save.

The "Last saved" preset saves your equalizer settings when you exit the Custom equalizer page if the settings are different from other presets.

Enable Volume EQ

You can turn on the volume equalizer to enhance bass and treble frequencies at lower volume levels. Depending on your device, you can change the settings for your earbuds in different ways:

On a Pixel phone with Android 10 or higher

1. Tap Settings Connected Devices Settings by your paired Pixel Buds name.
2. Tap Sound.
3. Turn on Volume EQ.

On other Android devices

1. Open the Google Pixel Buds app .
2. Tap Sound.
3. Turn on Volume EQ.

Get more bass on your Pixel Buds

• If you're using Google Pixel Buds (2021), you can get more bass with Bass boost.
• If you're using Pixel Buds A-Series, you can customize your bass.
• If you’re using Pixel Buds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro 2, or Pixel Buds 2a, adjusting bass is one of several EQ settings.

On a Pixel phone with Android 10 or higher

1. Tap Settings Connected Devices Settings by your paired Pixel Buds name.
2. Tap Sound.
3. Move the slider to adjust the bass level.¹

On other Android devices

1. Open the Google Pixel Buds app .
2. Tap Sound.
3. Move the slider to adjust the bass level.¹

Enhance your bass with Bass boost

On a Pixel phone with Android 10 or higher

Important: Once enabled, Bass boost stays enabled across other devices, such as a laptop or a tablet.

1. Tap Settings Connected Devices Settings by your paired Pixel Buds name.
2. Tap Sound.
3. Turn on Bass boost.¹

On other Android devices

1. Open the Google Pixel Buds app .
2. Tap Sound.
3. Turn on Bass boost.¹
