How to earn deals, offers & rewards (US only)

To earn deals, offers, and rewards, select where you want to find deals and follow the steps. You can find deals in:

  • The Google Pay app
  • Google Maps
  • Google Search
  • Web ads

How to earn merchant cashback rewards

Step 1: Opt in to offers & rewards
To be eligible for most rewards, turn on this setting.
  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or Account .
  3. Tap Settings and then Offers & rewards.
  4. Turn on Earn rewards on qualifying actions. If the setting is turned on, you’ve opted in.
When you opt in to offers & rewards:
  • You can opt out of Google Pay rewards at any time. If you turn off this setting after you make a purchase or while your reward is still pending, you may lose your reward.

Step 2: Enroll eligible cards
Some merchant, tap, or Google Pay balance rewards may require you to enroll an eligible card.
Important:
  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or Account .
  3. Tap Settings and then Offers & rewards.
  4. Turn on Enroll your card to get linked offers. This process may take a few moments. If the setting is turned on for one or more cards, then they are eligible cards enrolled for offers.
Tip: You can unenroll cards for offers with these same steps. If you unenroll a card after a purchase or while your reward is still pending, you may lose your reward.

Which cards are eligible?

You can use most cards from:

These card types aren't eligible for offers and rewards:

  • Health savings account (HSA) cards
  • Flexible savings account (FSA) cards
  • Private label charge cards from a specific store
  • Prepaid cards, like Visa Buxx
  • Prepaid insurance cards
  • Gift cards
  • Cards added to Google Pay directly from another mobile payments app or credit card-issuer app
Tip: You can’t use PayPal for offers and rewards, even if your PayPal account is connected to an enrolled card.

Why do I have to enroll cards to earn rewards?

To fulfill some offers, Google and trusted non-Google companies track transactions on enrolled cards. Trusted non-Google companies include service providers like Rakuten Card Linked Offer Network and Fidel Limited, and card networks like Visa, American Express, and Mastercard.

Step 3: Find & activate offers
Important: If reward terms require an offer to be activated, activate the offer before you make a purchase.
To earn a reward, browse offers and follow the offer terms.
  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Deals .
    • Tip: If you don’t find Deals on the bottom left corner, find it on the Pay screen.
  3. Scroll through your available offers.
  4. Tap an offer that you’re interested in.
  5. To activate an offer, tap Activate or Add Add.
    • Tip: Instead of  Add Add , you may find a bookmark .
  6. To qualify for the reward, before you make a purchase, activate the offer.

Where to find activated offers

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Deals .
    • If you don’t have this option, go to your profile and tap Activated offers.
  3. Tap Your offers.

What determines which deals are available to me?

Google Pay uses info from your linked accounts to show you relevant deals. This info can include details like your transactions, payment methods, and locations. To get more relevant deals:

  1. Turn on the “Personalization within Google Pay” setting.
  2. Link an account with Plaid.
  3. If prompted, share your location.

Step 4: Make an eligible purchase or action
To qualify and earn a reward, you must complete the terms for the offer.

When you make an eligible purchase or action:

  • Make sure your purchase meets any minimum purchase amount.
  • Complete the purchase or action before the offer expiration date.
  • If the offer is linked to a card, make any required purchases with the card that you enrolled in offers and rewards.
    • If it’s a retailer offer, you can use either your actual, physical card or the electronic version of the card on your device.
    • If the offer is for contactless payments or Google Pay balance, use the Google Pay app to complete the purchase.
    • To make sure your offer is applied when you use a debit card, authorize your purchase with your signature instead of your PIN.
Step 5: Claim your reward

After you activate an offer and make a qualifying purchase or action, you can claim your reward:

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  1. In the bottom left, tap Deals .
    • If you don’t have this option, go to your profile and tap Total rewards.
  1. To get more info, tap a reward.
  2. To claim your reward, follow the instructions.

How to redeem promo codes

Step 1: Find & activate a deal

Important: To find or use promo codes, you don’t have to opt into Google Pay rewards or enroll an eligible card.

  1. Browse and select a deal
    • Promo code deals show a code that must be used at checkout.
  2. Find the terms of the deal.
  3. To reveal the code, tap Get code.

Step 2: Make your purchase

To redeem:

  1. Next to the promo code, tap Copy.
  2. Tap Redeem online. You’re taken to the merchant website.
  3. When you complete your purchase on the merchant’s website, enter the promo code at checkout.

To find a saved promo code later:

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. In the bottom left, tap Deals and then Your Offers.
    • Tip: If you don’t have a “Deals" option, go to your profile and tap Activated offers.
  3. Tap the deal that you want to use.

Tip: If you browse a merchant website on your phone, you may get a reminder from Google Pay that you have an activated promo code available.

How to find Groupon deals in the Google Pay app

How to get Groupon deals
  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Tap Deals .
    • Tip: If you don't find "Deals" on the bottom left corner, find it on the Pay screen.
  3. Scroll under “Prepaid offers,” tap a Groupon offer.
  4. Review the offer details and tap Buy on Groupon.
    • To purchase the offer, the app sends you to the Groupon app or website.
