Your version of Android doesn’t support card payments

Tap to pay transactions now require Android 9 or higher. If you have an earlier version of Android you won’t be able to make contactless payments or view and use any cards or passes that you’ve saved in Wallet.

About the version requirement & how to update

To help keep features such as tap to pay transactions more secure, we must be able to send security updates to your device. Security updates aren’t available for Android versions below 9.

What this means for the Google Pay app

If your device has an Android version below 9, some Google Pay app features are no longer available.

Unavailable on Android versions below 9

  • Add new credit or debit cards as payment methods in Wallet.
  • Make tap to pay transactions.
  • Use a card to send money to friends and family.
  • View any added debit or credit cards.
  • View or use passes in Wallet.

Tip: You can still view any debit or credit cards you’ve added to your account at wallet.google.com.

Available on versions below Android 9

  • View your transaction history in the Google Pay app.
  • Use other features of the Google Pay app such as:
    • Send money to friends and family from a bank account.
    • Get insights about your spending.
    • View offers and earn rewards.
    • View your Google Pay balance.
