Add your COVID Card to your Android device

On your Android device, you can store a digital copy of your COVID vaccination and test info as a COVID Card.

• Your COVID Card is only stored on the device you save it on. You can manually save it on more than one device.
• You don’t need the Google Pay app to use this feature.

Where COVID Cards are available

Important: This feature allows you to store and display third-party information about your COVID-19 vaccination and test information. If you think the info displayed isn’t accurate or you have any other questions about the info, contact your healthcare provider.

Add your COVID Card

Important: Your device needs to run Android 5 or above and be Play Protect certified.  For best results we recommend that you update to the latest version of Android if possible.

When you receive your test or vaccination, you may be given instructions about how to find your test results, vaccine status, or certificate online. If you don’t have that info, reach out to the organization or healthcare provider who administered your test or vaccine.

1. With your device, visit the website, app, email, or text from your healthcare provider.
2. Find your COVID-19 vaccination or test information.
3. Find and tap Save to phone. If you’re asked if you want to save with Chrome or Google Pay, choose Google Pay even if you don’t have the Google Pay app.
4. Tap Continue.
5. If you don’t have one already, you may need to set a screen lock. This is for added security and to help protect your personal information.
   • To add your COVID Card to your device, read through the consent information and tap I Agree. You’ll be asked if you want to add an icon to your home screen. To find your COVID Card easier, we recommend that you create this shortcut.

Important: Your COVID Card is stored locally on your device. If you want to access your COVID Card on multiple devices, you will need to manually save the card on each device.

Tip: If you get further shots after adding your COVID card, you must re-add your card with the steps above to update your information.

Add a COVID-19 Vaccine Card with a screenshot on your Pixel phone

Important: This feature is available from healthcare providers who issue SMART Health Cards on Pixel 4 and later in the US, Canada, and Australia. To add quick access to a COVID-19 Vaccine Card with a screenshot, you must install the Google Pay app on your phone and have an active internet connection.

1. Open the email, app, or website that has your digital Vaccine Card.
2. Make sure that the QR code is visible.
3. Take a screenshot of your Vaccine Card. Learn how to take a screenshot with your Pixel phone.
4. When prompted, tap Add Quick Access.

Tip: If you don’t find “Add Quick Access” after you take a screenshot, your healthcare provider may not support this feature.

Find your COVID Card

If you added an icon to your home screen

1. On your device’s home screen, find the shortcut icon. You may need to swipe right through one or more home screens to find it.
2. Tap the icon.
3. If you haven’t recently unlocked your phone, you must unlock it to find your COVID Card.

Your COVID Card will display the basic information about you, your healthcare provider, and your COVID vaccination or test. To find any additional info provided, at the bottom, tap Details.

If you didn’t add an icon to your home screen

If you have the Google Pay app

If you have the old Google Pay app

1. Open the Google Pay app .
2. Touch the bottom of the screen and swipe up.
3. Find your COVID Card and tap it.

If you have the new Google Pay app

1. Open the Google Pay app .
2. At the top, tap the card image .
3. Touch the bottom of the screen and swipe up.
4. Find your COVID Card and tap it.

Tip: To find your COVID Card easier next time, you can add a shortcut icon to your device’s home screen. To add an icon, follow the instructions above to find your COVID Card. Tap More   Save to home.

If you don’t have the Google Pay app

1. On your device, go to Settings .
2. Tap Google Settings for Google apps.
3. Tap Google Pay.
4. Touch the bottom of the screen and swipe up.
5. Find your COVID Card and tap it.

Tip: To find your COVID Card easier next time, you can add a shortcut icon to your device’s home screen. To add an icon, follow the instructions above to find your COVID Card. Tap More   Save to home.

Delete your COVID card

You have control over how your data is used. Once you add your COVID card to your device, you can delete it any time.

1. To find your COVID Card, use the steps above.
2. Tap your COVID Card.
3. At the top right, tap More .
4. Tap Remove.
5. Optional: If you created a shortcut for your COVID Card, you can delete the shortcut from your home screen as you would any app on your phone.

Important:  Your COVID Card is only stored on the device you add it to. Google doesn’t keep a copy of this information. If you delete your card, your COVID-19 vaccination and test info is deleted. To add the COVID Card back to your device, you’ll need to go through the steps to add it again.

Fix issues with your COVID Card

Can't add your COVID Card

If you get the error message, "The COVID Card can only be added to Android mobile devices with Google Pay" follow these steps:

1. Find the email or text that your healthcare provider sent you to add your COVID card.
2. Tap and hold the link.
3. Select "Open in Browser" to open the link in your web browser (like Chrome)
4. Go through the steps above to add the card to Google Pay.

If that doesn't fix the issue:

1. On your phone, open Settings .
2. In the search bar, type "Opening links" and tap it.
3. Swipe to and tap Google Play services.
4. Turn on Open supported links.
5. Open the link from your health care provider again and try to set up your COVID-19 Vaccination Card or test record.

If you still have trouble, contact us for help.

Your provider doesn't support this feature

Each provider can choose whether they want to support integration with Google Pay. You can contact your healthcare provider and ask if they plan to offer this feature.

Shortcut disappears

If your COVID card shortcut disappears from your device home screen, we recommend you install the Google Pay app and access your card there.

Privacy policy for your COVID card

What information is provided to Google when I save my COVID Card?

When you save your COVID Card on your phone, you ask your healthcare provider or authorized third party to provide us with certain information. You provide:

• Information about you such as your name and date of birth. This information may also include your national identity number if your chosen healthcare provider or authorized third party provides this information.
• Information about the provider of your COVID vaccination or test. This includes the name of the provider and their contact details.
• Information about your COVID vaccination and test
  • If your COVID Card is about your COVID vaccination, this includes information such as the vaccine’s name, the lot and dose number, the date you received it, name of the administering entity, and your future appointment details.
  • If your COVID Card is about your COVID test, this includes information such as the name of the test, the result, the date you received it, and the name of the administering entity.
• Information about your entry eligibility. If your corresponding government agency or authorized third party supports entry eligibility recommendation, this includes information on whether you’re cleared for entry and the date on which it expires. 

With your consent, we process this information to create your COVID Card. Additionally, we record the fact that you consented. Learn more about how we use your information.

Important: Google creates your COVID Card with the information you choose to provide about you and your COVID vaccination and test. Google doesn’t independently verify this information. Google can’t confirm how complete or accurate this information is. If you think that this information is incorrect, contact your healthcare provider or authorized third party.

Is info provided to Google when I use my Covid Card?

When you use your COVID Card, like when you access your COVID Card or show your COVID Card to third parties, you provide Google with information about how you use your COVID Card, as described in Google’s Privacy Policy. This information, such as the number of times that you access your COVID Card and on which days, is shared with Google.

How your info is used

• Create your COVID Card. To create your COVID Card, we use the information that you provide to us through your chosen healthcare authority or authorized third party. This information isn’t shared with other Google services and we don’t use it for ad personalization.
• Store your COVID Card. Your COVID Card is saved and stored on your device.
• Keep a record of your consent. We keep a record of the fact that you provided your consent for Google to process your information to provide this feature. This record is kept for legal and regulatory purposes.
• Provide and improve this service. To provide and improve this service, we use information about how you use your COVID Card. For example, information about the number of people who use their COVID Card each day helps us to provide you with a reliable service.

Share your info

We do not share your COVID vaccination or test information with other Google services or third parties. Your COVID information is stored locally on your device.

You can choose to share your COVID Card with others. To do this, you can access your COVID Card on your device and show the COVID Card to another person. When you allow another person to scan the QR code that’s displayed on your COVID Card, you allow them to read your COVID vaccination or test information that’s stored within the QR code. 

Delete your info

Your COVID information is stored only on your device. If you delete your card, your COVID-19 vaccination and test info is deleted as Google doesn’t store a copy of this information.
