You can send money to friends or family in India.

Create & link a Wise account to send money in Google Pay

Important: When you send money internationally, it‘s sent through Google Pay’s partner, Wise. Confirm all payment details and verify the receiver’s identity before you send any payments. For more info, contact Wise.

You must link your Wise account to make international payments with Wise in the Google Pay app. If you don’t already have a Wise account, you must create one and link it to Google Pay:

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Tap Send or request. 
    • Search or tap the contact in India with a +91 phone number that you want to send money to. Your friend or family member needs to download the Google Pay app to be eligible to receive money.  
  3. Tap Pay
  4. Select the amount of money that you want to transfer. Our international money transfer partner, Wise, shows the  current exchange rate and any fees related to your transaction. 
  5. Tap Continue.
  6. If you don’t already have a Wise account, you’re directed to create one.
  7. Enter your info, then tap Create Wise account.
  8. Enter the recipient’s details:
    • Full name
    • Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) number
    • Bank account number
  9. Select your payment method and tap Continue
  10. Review the transfer info and tap Start transfer.

Unlink your Wise account from Google Pay

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Settings and then Privacy & security and then Data & personalization.
  4. Under “Linking Google Pay for international money transfers,” tap View and manage linking and then Unlink.

Info shared when you link your Wise account

When you link your Wise account in Google Pay, Google passes info to Wise so Wise can process and service your money transfer requests. This info includes:

  • Payment method info like your funding credit or debit card account number
  • Transfer details like your requested transfer amount and reason for payment
  • Info about your recipient (like their name, bank account and India Financial System Code (IFSC) numbers)

Google Pay also shares your email address, along with other personal info such as your name, phone number, and address with Wise for Wise to set up a Wise account if you don’t already have one and to link your account to Google Pay. Info passed by Google to Wise is handled by Wise according to their terms and privacy policy.

Google also receives info from Wise about transfers you initiate with Wise in Google Pay, in order to make transfer updates available in the Google Pay app. Transfer updates are provided to you and the other Google Pay users in your app conversation, and include transfer status, along with details like amount, reason for payment, and last 4 digits of recipient account. Only Google Pay users receive transfer updates in the Google Pay app.

Transaction details

Find your transaction details:

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Under “Activity,” tap the transaction that you want more info about.

Transfer fees & bank fees

You might find transfer and bank fees, like credit card or debit card fees, as part of your transaction. Learn how to add debit or credit cards.

Different types of fees

  • Bank fee: Fees incurred when you use your debit card or credit card. Credit card fees are higher than debit card fees. Fees are set by Wise and locked in once the transfer is sent.
  • Wise transfer fees: Charged by Wise and locked in once the transfer is sent.
  • Cash advance fees: Only applies to credit cards and are charged by your bank.

Check the status of your money transfer

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Select the contact that you transferred money to.
  3. On the payment confirmation, tap Check Status.
  4. The status is one of the following:
    • Pending: The payment is in process with the partner, or sender info is being confirmed.
    • Completed: The transaction is complete. Transactions usually complete instantly.
    • Canceled: The transaction is canceled.

If the recipient needs confirmation of the transfer, you can share a screenshot of the confirmation, or a downloadable receipt. You can find a downloadable receipt in the transaction details in the Google Pay app.

Cancel or dispute a transaction

After the transfer is complete, you can’t cancel it. For more help, you can contact contact Wise support.
