Split a bill & track expenses with a group

In the Google Pay app, you can split a bill between multiple people and track expenses with a group.

You can split a group expense, request money and settle multiple group expenses through the Google Pay Singapore app.

Important: To split a bill, you need an active PayNow account added to your Google account. As a requestor, you can't receive payments without an active PayNow account. You can still create a bill split and activate your PayNow account later.

Split a bill

Tip: One person can create a bill and request money from the created group.

From an existing group

  1. Open the Google Pay app
  2. Open the existing group chat and tap Split bill.
    • You can also find your group on the "Discover" page.
  3. Enter the total amount of the bill.
  4. Enter a name for the bill.
  5. Select the members from the group to split the bill with.
  6. To attach a receipt image (optional), in the top right, tap the button to choose to:
    • Take a new photo.
    • Select an image from the album.
  7. Tap Confirm.

From your home screen

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Tap + New payment and then Split a bill.
  3. Select a group or a list of contacts.
  4. Enter the total amount of the bill.
    • You can enter a name or description for your bill.
  5. Adjust the amount each person owes you.
  6. To attach a receipt image (optional), in the top right, tap the button to choose to:
    • Take a new photo.
    • Select an image from the album.
  7. Tap Send request.
    • A new group is created for everyone who shares this bill. You can use this group for future bill splits.

Check the status of your request

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Open the group you created for the bill.
  3. Select the bill you want to check.
  4. From the bill details page, you can find out who has paid, who still needs to pay, and the amount that remains unpaid.

Close a bill

Tip: After you close a bill, your contacts can't make any additional payments.

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Open the bill you want to close.
  3. You’ll find the status of your bill, either unpaid, partially paid, or paid.
  4. Tap More More and then Close bill and then Close bill.

Respond to a bill request

You can respond to a bill request from a notification, in a group chat, or in the bill details.

Pay from a notification

  1. Open the Google Pay notification.
  2. To pay, tap Pay now.

Pay from a group chat

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Open the group chat.
  3. On the bill split request, tap Pay.
  4. Choose your payment method.
  5. Tap Proceed to pay. You’ll find a record of your payment in the group chat.

Settle your bill split expenses

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the top, tap Search Search.
  3. Select the group you want to split the bill with.
  4. On the "Expenses” tab, check the summary of "Owed by you" and "Owed to you." This shows all the open bill split requests in a group.
  5. Under the "Owed by you" section, tap a member you want to settle an expense with.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
