When you complete qualifying actions, like make a purchase, send money, or refer friends, you can earn rewards with the Google Pay app.

How to earn most rewards
Steps 1 – 5 are for the first 4 offer types: Welcome offers, merchant offers, tap offers, and Google Pay balance card offers.
Step 1: Opt in to offers & rewards- Open the Google Pay app

- At the top right, tap your profile picture or Account

- Tap Settings
Offers & rewards.
- Turn on Earn rewards on qualifying actions. If the setting is turned on, you’ve opted in.
- You can opt out of Google Pay rewards at any time. If you turn off this setting after you make a purchase or while your reward is still pending, you may lose your reward.
- To check if you opted into Google Pay rewards, compare with this screen:
Some merchant, tap, or Google Pay balance rewards may require you to enroll an eligible card.
- To enroll a card for offers, you must first add one or more cards to Google Pay. An eligible card can only be enrolled for offers on one Google Pay account.
- To make a transaction with your Google Pay balance card, you must have enough money in your Google Pay balance and set up your Google Pay balance to pay businesses.
- Open the Google Pay app

- At the top right, tap your profile picture or Account

- Tap Settings

- Turn on Enroll your card to get linked offers. This process may take a few moments. If the setting is turned on for one or more cards, then they are eligible cards enrolled for offers.
Tip: You can unenroll cards for offers with these same steps. If you unenroll a card after a purchase or while your reward is still pending, you may lose your reward.
To check if you have at least one card enrolled for offers, compare with this screen:
Which cards are eligible?
You can use most cards from:
- Visa (includes your Google Pay balance card)
- Mastercard
- American Express
These card types aren't eligible for offers and rewards:
- Health savings account (HSA) cards
- Flexible savings account (FSA) cards
- Private label charge cards from a specific store
- Prepaid cards, like Visa Buxx
- Prepaid insurance cards
- Gift cards
- Cards added to Google Pay directly from another mobile payments app or credit card-issuer app
Tip: You can’t use PayPal for offers and rewards, even if your PayPal account is connected to an enrolled card.
Why do I have to enroll cards to earn rewards?
To fulfill some offers, Google and trusted non-Google companies track transactions on enrolled cards. Trusted non-Google companies include service providers like Rakuten Card Linked Offer Network and Fidel Limited, and card networks like Visa, American Express, and Mastercard.

- Open the Google Pay app

- At the bottom, tap

- Scroll through your available offers.
- To find offers near you, turn the location on.
- If you haven’t already turned the location on, under “See popular offers in your area” tap Turn location on.
- If you already turned the location on, you won’t find this prompt.
- Tap an offer you’re interested in.
- To activate an offer, tap Activate or the “+” button.
- To qualify for the reward, before you make a purchase, activate the offer.
How to know if an offer is activated
What determines which offers are available to me?
Your profile data, location, activity in Google Pay, and activity in Google services determine offers available to you.
Manage your preferences any time in your Google Account. Some offers may not be available in your region. If you browse offers and find the option to Turn location on, it means that this setting is off. Tap the button to turn it on and receive local offers.
When you make an eligible purchase or action:
- Make sure your purchase meets any minimum purchase amount.
- Complete the purchase or action before the offer expiration date.
- If the offer is linked to a card, make any required purchases with the card that you enrolled in offers and rewards.
- If it’s a retailer offer, you can use either your actual, physical card or the electronic version of the card on your device.
- If the offer is for contactless payments or Google Pay balance, use the Google Pay app to complete the purchase.
- To make sure your offer is applied when you use a debit card, authorize your purchase with your signature instead of your PIN.
- Open the Google Pay app

- To claim your reward, follow the instructions.
How to find & use promo codes
Step 1: Find & activate an offer
In the Google Pay app
- Browse and select an offer. Promo code offers show a code that must be used at checkout.
- Find the terms of the offer.
- To reveal the code, tap Get code.
In Google Maps
In Google Maps, below the merchant’s info, you can find available offers.
- Browse and select an offer. Promo code offers show a code that must be used at checkout.
- To find the terms of the offer, tap See offer.
- To reveal the code, tap Activate offer.
Step 2: Make your purchase
To redeem now:
- Next to the promo code, tap Copy.
- Tap Redeem online. You’re taken to the merchant’s website.
- Browse the merchant’s website.
- Add items to your cart that meet the promotion requirements.
- During checkout, when prompted, enter your promo code.
- In 1–2 days, the offer is removed.
To redeem later:
- Open the Google Pay app

- At the bottom, tap Offers
.
- Under “Your offers,” you can find promo codes that you activated.
- Tap the offer you want to use and copy the promo code.
- Tap Redeem online. You’re taken to the merchant’s website.
- Browse the merchant’s website.
- Add items to your cart that meet the promotion requirements.
- During checkout, when prompted, enter your promo code.
- In 1–2 days, the offer is removed.
Cash back reward timelines & details
Reward timelines
- Time for reward to appear: After a qualified purchase, it can take a few days for your reward to appear. If you haven’t received your reward after a week, contact us for help.
- Time to receive cash back: After the cashback is unlocked, it can take up to 48 hours for it to be deposited into your money in Google Pay.
- Pending rewards: If your qualifying purchase has a return period, it can take up to 90 days for the cashback to be unlocked. During this time, the reward shows as pending

Any cashback rewards are deposited into your money in Google Pay.
Find the rewards you’ve earned
- Open the Google Pay app

- At the bottom, tap

- Below your total rewards amount, tap Show more.
