Pay for parking with Google Pay (US only)

You can use the Google Pay app to pay for parking at participating locations.

How to pay for parking

  1. At a participating parking location, open the Google Pay app .
  2. Swipe up on the screen.
  3. Tap Pay for parking.
  4. Tap Start new session
    • You can also select a suggested parking zone. 
  5. Enter your parking zone number, which is usually on a nearby sign or on a parking meter decal. 
  6. If prompted, enter your parking space number. This might be on a nearby sign or on the curb.
  7. Enter your vehicle details or select a vehicle you added previously. 
    • If you add new vehicle details, make sure the license plate characters are correct to help avoid a ticket or fine.
  8. Set how long you want to park for.
    • If parking is currently free, your payment will be applied from the time free parking ends.
  9. Select your payment method.
  10. Tap Pay.

Tip: The parking meter won’t display your parking session. Parking enforcement personnel will find the status of your parking session through their handheld devices.

Check how much time you have left

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Swipe up on the screen.
  3. Tap Parking.
  4. To check how much time that you have left, tap your active parking session.

Add parking time

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Swipe up on the screen.
  3. Tap Parking.
  4. Tap your active parking session and then Add time.
  5. Select the amount of time you want to add.
  6. Tap Continue to payment.
    • To complete your payment, follow the on-screen instructions.

Find your receipt

For in-app purchases

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Under “Businesses,” tap the parking merchant that you paid.
    • You can also tap Search Search and enter the name of the parking merchant.
  3. Under “Activity,” tap a transaction to open your purchase details.

For pay.google.com/parking purchases

If you paid for parking through pay.google.com/parking, your receipt is sent to the email you use with Google Pay.

Delete transaction or purchase info in the Google Pay app

To delete your Google Pay app transaction or purchase info:

  • From the Google Pay app, find the merchant of your transaction or purchase:
    1. Touch and hold the transaction or purchase you’d like to delete.
    2. Tap Delete.
  • If you’d like to delete both your transaction and your purchase info:
    1. Go to the My Activity section of your Google Account.
    2. Find the transaction or purchase you’d like to delete.
    3. Select Delete Delete.

Manage your vehicles

In the Google Pay app

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. Swipe up on the screen.
  3. Tap Parking.
    • If the area where you park is supported by multiple merchants, select a merchant to continue.
  4. Tap Manage vehicle.
  5. From here, you can:
    • Add another vehicle: Tap Add another vehicle.
    • Manage a current vehicle: Tap More More and then Edit or Delete.

In pay.google.com/parking

  1. Go to pay.google.com/parking.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap Saved vehicles.
  4. Select an option.
    • Add another vehicle: Enter the vehicle details.
    • Edit a vehicle: Next to the vehicle you want to edit, tap More More and then Edit.
    • Delete a vehicle: Next to the vehicle you want to delete, tap More More and then Delete.

Fix location errors when using the Google Pay app

Important: For this service to work, Google Pay must know the location of your device.
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Tap Location.
    • Make sure you turn on Use location.
  3. Under “Recent Location Requests,” tap Google Pay.
    • You can also tap App permission and then Google Pay.
  4. Tap Allow.
  5. Then open the Google Pay app and if needed learn how to pay for gas.
Tip: If Google Pay asks for access to the location of your device, tap Allow.

Fix location errors when using pay.google.com/parking

If you get the message “Google Pay could not determine your precise location,” you need to update your location settings.

Step 1: Turn on your location

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app .
  2. Tap Location.
  3. Turn on Use location.
  4. Reopen the web browser that you used to try to pay and reload the page.
    • If you don’t get an error on the message about the location of your device, tap Allow.
    • If you still get an error after you reload, go on to Step 2.

Step 2: Allow Google Pay to access your browser location

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. At the top right, tap More Organize and then Settings.
  3. Under "Advanced," tap Site settings.
  4. Tap Location.
    • If Location is “blocked,” turn on Location.
    • If a Google website is “blocked,” tap the website and then Location access and then Allow for current search engine.
  5. Reopen the web browser that you used to pay and reload the page.
  6. On the message about your device’s location, tap Allow.

Request a refund

Important: You can’t cancel or subtract time from an active parking session.

To request a refund, contact the parking merchant with your purchase details. Your purchase details also include information you might need, like the parking duration, zone, vehicle details, and unique reference ID.  

If the parking merchant started a refund, it may take up to a couple of weeks to get it. To confirm the status of your refund, contact your bank.

Dispute a fine or citation

To dispute a fine, contact the parking operator who issued the citation. The parking operator’s contact info is listed on the citation.

You might need to provide info like the parking duration, zone, vehicle details, and unique transaction number. This info is included in your purchase details.

Meter doesn’t show parking session

Tip: The parking meter won’t display your parking session. Parking enforcement personnel will find the status of your parking session through their handheld devices.
