You can use Google Pay to request money or pay requests from friends and family.
Important: If you’d like friends and family to find and send you money, you need to opt in to “Help People Find You” setting in Google Pay. If this setting is turned off, family and friends can’t pay or request money unless you’re already connected to them on Google Pay. Learn more about settings.

Request money
You can use Google Pay to request money or pay requests from friends and family. Google Pay charges no fees.
- Open the Google Pay app
.
- On the home screen you can:
- Tap Send or request to find and search for contacts.
- Search for someone by name, email, phone, or QR code.
- Send money to new users with referrals.
- Tap the contact you want to request money from.
- Tap Request.
- Enter the amount you want to request and then tap Next
.
Tip:To describe your request, you can add a note. - Tap Request.
Pay a request
Important: To make sure you pay the right person and avoid scams, verify the phone number of the recipient from your contact list before you pay. You get an alert when you send money to someone not in your contact list.
If you have the Google Pay app
The "Help friends find and pay you" setting is turned on
- Open the Google Pay app
.
- Tap Send or request.
- Under “Pending activity,” review any pending requests.
- Tap View payment.
- Tip: If the requestor can’t find you in the Google Pay app, you’ll get a notification that if you continue, your profile will be shared with the requestor. You can choose to block the requestor. Otherwise, tap Continue.
- Tap Pay or Decline.
- If you choose to pay, select the right payment method
tap Pay.

- To open the Google Pay app
, click on the text or email you received.
- You’ll get a notification that your profile will be shared with the contact that requested money. Review the message and tap Continue.
- In the chat conversation, find the request for payment and tap Pay.
- Choose a payment method.
- If the amount is equal to or less than the amount in your Google Pay balance, it's fully funded by Google Pay balance.
- If there’s no payment method, add a payment method.
- Tap Pay.

If you don’t have the Google Pay app
If you get a message or email with a request for you to pay someone on Google Pay within 7 days, you can complete the payment with these steps:
- To download the Google Pay app, use the link from the text or the email.
- To get started with Google Pay, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Sign in with the same phone number or email that got the message. You can only pay if you sign up with the phone number that the request was sent to.
- On the Pay screen
, tap the contact that sent you the request.
- You’ll get a notification that your profile will be shared with the contact that requested money. Review the message and tap Continue.
- In the chat conversation, find the request for the payment, and tap Pay.
- Choose a payment method.
- If the amount is equal to or less than the amount in your Google Pay balance, it's fully funded by Google Pay balance.
- If there’s no payment method, add a payment method.
- Tap Pay.
Cancel a request
- Tap the contact you sent the request to.
- If the request isn’t complete, below the amount, tap Cancel.
Tip: You should find “Request canceled.”
