Common questions about send, receive, add, or transfer out money

Never use the Google Pay app to purchase or sell goods & services

The Google Pay app should be used to send money to or receive money from friends, family, and acquaintances you trust.

Do not use the app to send or receive money for any business- or commercial-related reasons, except to pay rent to other individual users. These transactions aren’t permitted under our Terms of Service.

Important: Do not make purchases via money transfers. You could lose your money and not get what you paid for. Learn more about common scams and how you can avoid them.

I paid the wrong person

When you start a payment, we send a request to your bank or card company to transfer money to the recipient. After the payment is complete, we can't reverse it.

  • If you know the person who you accidentally sent money to, ask them to send the money back.
  • If you don’t know the person you sent money to, ask them to contact Google via Google Pay Help to return the money.

I can’t find a person

The new Google Pay app lets you search for other people who also have the new app. You can search for someone in your contacts with their name, phone number, or email.

If you can't find someone, it could be because they:

  • Don't have the new Google Pay app .
  • Don't have a United States (US) or India (IN) phone number.
  • Might not have Help friends find and pay you turned on. If this setting is turned off, you can only find them if you're already connected in the app. Learn how to turn on Help friends find and pay you.

Tip: In the new Google Pay app, if you sent or received money with a friend or started a chat with them, they can find you on the app with your phone number even if this setting is off.

I can't send money

There are several reasons why you can't send money. You may:

  • Have met your weekly rolling limit.
  • Be using an invalid form of payment.
  • Be sending money to someone on the previous version of the Google Pay app.

Sometimes, you can’t find someone you sent money to before or you can’t send them money on the new app. In those cases, it’s likely that someone hasn’t downloaded the new app yet. Send them an invitation to download the new Google Pay app.

My final amount is different from my estimate
